Did you know that Milo is the Greek word for apple? Personally, I think it would have made more sense if one of Dave's kids was named Milo for the apple juice reference.
Remember the Homestuck credits?
Where they show the kids using the ectobiology machines to make a zillion babies? there are specifically 4 panels with clear distinguishable babies
Tumblr media
i took it upon myself to guess who’s parents each human baby belongs to (i hope that sentence make any sence #notanenglishspeaker)
and i gave them names and colors(this is all just for fun). they turned out to be exactly 12, nice

Pairing: Dark!Winter Soldier James Bucky Barnes | Morally Gray Princess!You.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: When the Winter soldier experiments go wrong on your fiance Crown Prince James Barnes and he ends up crippled and unstable, you call the engagement off and your family proposes that the alliance can still be on if his family pairs you up with his twin brother Nick instead. But then James breaks out of the lab one night and comes straight for you, razing through everyone who stands in his way, hurt and unforgiving.
Disclaimer: I do not own James Bucky Barnes, Nick Fowler or any of the MCU characters mentioned (sadly). This story contains dark and mature content. Minors do not interact.
Warnings: Dubcon, morally gray!reader, opportunistic reader, smut with plot, dark!Bucky, angst, winter soldier, exhibitionism, choking, hair pulling, slapping, humiliation, degradation, dumbification, manhandling, unprotected p-in-v, biting, missionary and doggy style, breeding kink, creampie, fear kink, power imbalance, Bucky's metal arm (?), pet names (rosey, baby), Daddy kink, sir kink.
Note: I think this sounds a bit unserious and somewhat goofy aah but this was exactly my idea and I don't think I could have done it any different. Please let me know what you think <3
You rolled your eyes with a scoff at something your now fiance and ex brother-in-law to be, Crown Prince Nick Barnes, said. The night was cool and you had ordered for the lights of the garden that your balcony faced to be turned down. Your silk nightgown that was dark blue in color -Nick's royal color- hung from your shoulders in the most comforting way as the skirt bit of the article swayed with the gentle breeze. You heard Nick's chuckle on the other end of the video call and before you retorted with something edgy because that was just the kind of Princess that you were, you shifted against the railing to make yourself more comfortable while still holding the phone in such a way that he could see you.
His demanding nature was not one you particularly fancied but you supposed that was the kind of liberty that came with being an actual heir. Though you couldn't help but be reminded of how although his brother -the older twin- was a much better crown prince than Nick could ever be and yet he had never made you feel inferior in status by imposing his will on you.
It was impossible for you not to muse on the possibility that if your older sister, The actual Crown Princess of your kingdom, had been chosen by his brother instead of you, Nick would still treat her the same way and if she would put up with having to be subservient.
"All things considered, Your Royal Highness, we are still not having a dozen children" the title never failed to sting your tongue due to how you had never had to use it for your original fiance.
But Nick was just one of those people.
His snort made you want to roll your eyes but you knew better than to disrespect him as the two of you shared a rather formal relationship that was quite terse around the edges. Perhaps, his brother had spoiled you too much. "I always find it amusing that you think you have a choice in–" you were busy watching the stars because you could not bear to look at him when he behaved like this. But then he abruptly changed the topic and you didn't care to express concern by glancing at the screen, "I thought you said you excused your ladies, little one" he did not appreciate being lied to; something he shared with his identical brother.
"I did, Your Excellency" when he sighed in disapproval, you had to avert your eyes from the sky to look down at him on the screen with an air of annoyance about you. "I really–"
"Then who is that behind you?" Nick had also been busy reading away on a tablet as he traveled somewhere -probably back to the Palace- in a vehicle but now he narrowed in on his screen.
Your eyebrows remained flat and you resisted the urge to roll your eyes. "Ha ha, Your Highness, very funny" he had a thing for making silly jokes when he was in an agreeable mood, or at least moving towards one.
"Y/n, I am serious" there was an urgency in his voice as he leaned closer to get a better look. "Turn around right now and tell me who is–"
"You even wear his color now, huh rosey?" Your body took a good few moments to register the voice behind you and you nearly failed to recognize it at first. Though when your brain finally managed to make the association, your heart dropped into your stomach and your blood ran ice cold.
You spun around on your heels so hard they ached, coming face to face with James Barnes; the original Crown Prince and your real fiance. The man who had chosen you over your sister; giving preference to you for once, the brave warrior who had surrendered his body to his country; so they could make the best protector possible out of him, the honorable fool who only wanted to do good; a hero too noble for this wretched world.
Your phone that now blared with Nick's alarmed yells slipped through your numbing fingers but James caught it before it could break against the ground. "What the hell are you doing here?" You harshly whispered as if in a defensive autopilot, overwhelmed by how he had grown three times his size. Your eyes unintentionally traveled to where his arm had gotten mutilated on an expedition and you found a metal one glinting up at you in its stead. Maybe your reaction could be considered foolish in hindsight, but the knowledge that you were utterly at this unstable man's mercy and had nothing to defend yourself with against his monstrous stature terrified you. That in turn caused you to act in the only way you thought was appropriate as you desperately hoped for your facade to affect him in a helpful way.
"Did all those years mean nothing to you, rosey?" His face was covered in stubble and his dark hair was long as it obscured most of his features, deep voice animalistic as his black leather clad form seemed to expand and contract with each heavy breath. Your throat tightened in on itself and your breath hitched. What the hell had they really done to him?
"You shouldn't be here, James" you looked around for your guards– anyone but found the area to be eerily silent. How had you not noticed this ominous shift in your environment before? "That is against the rules as you're endangering the future Queen and many other people" he was all about rules and that was what you had disliked most about him. "Go back" your heart was on the verge of exploding but you pushed on with as much a semblance of composed firmness as you could muster.
Nick's threats and curses melted into the background as James coldly snorted before snatching you by your hair, fingers snaking through a tangle of the strands, the action causing you to wince. It was only when you tried to fight him back and the bustle caused the two of you to inch closer to the lighting of your chambers did his face really come into your view. Your eyes widened in horror as your hand went to clamp over the hold he had on you defensively.
His pale face was covered in blood splatters and his glossy teal eyes seemed to shake, their blown pupils crazed.
"So it was always about the crown then, huh, rosey?" You would never have expected him to sound as hurt and betrayed in this maddened state as he did.
"You know it was" you lied through your teeth to try and get his stance to falter like it always did when you counterattacked to his affectionate advances with hostility; the only thing you had known all your life. "Nothing matters more than the crown" the world functioned on power. So you had always used and abused that you had over him; over his heart.
"I see" except, it didn't seem to budge him much today. Your eyes desperately scanned your dark surroundings again, this time for a weapon albeit still in vain. "In that case, you should be with me, then" your eyebrows furrowed in confusion as you whimpered at how his fingers tightened around your neck.
"James!" And then you were getting dragged back into your chambers.
Once he had approached your bed, he placed your phone on the bedside table so a fuming Nick could clearly see whatever was about to unfold.
Your flailing form was yanked back in frame and then held tightly in place by the clasping of his metal hand over the deep neckline of your nightgown. "Because I am all fixed up," your eyes turned to look at him in horror as he chuckled dryly, "and back to take all that's mine" you screamed and hot tears finally rushed down your flushed cheeks when your compressed breasts sprang free in the air upon his tearing a thick valley between the front piece of your gown. James only snickered into the camera while his brother screamed at him to not dare damage what was his amongst other profanities.
But wasn't James simply repossessing what had always belonged to him in the first place?
He had finally corrected himself in the way the world deserved.
Now he would only live for himself like everyone else was.
He was done getting played for a fool by all.
"Please!" Your words fell on deaf ears as the man proceeded to further rip his brother's color off your body furiously until nothing remained in his hold except for your nudity, strong jaw nearly ticking broken due to how it was clenched as he did so.
"Tell me, dear, did you also let him have you?" You were nearly petrified at this point both by shame and fear as he manhandled you onto the bed before crawling over you like a predator and trapping your limbs under his. "And if you dare lie to me then so God help me" his metal hand roughly fondled your breasts as his other hand tightly restrained your limp yet determined wrists above your head.
"S- Stop!" Your back arched and you turned your face away in disgust when he started sniffing you all over like a hungry hound.
"Hm, what about this little pussy of mine down here" a chill ran down your spine at how the crevices of his metal hand felt against your nether lips when he stroked them. "Has she forgotten her Daddy, hm?" He was the stark opposite of the man you had been engaged to and that in addition to how you had last seen him slashing at the lab assistants while speaking a language you did not understand as well as how semi-liquid crimson particles covered his face caused for a wave of pure terror to rush over you. But it was nothing compared to the chilling fact that his body heat and touch -regardless of its fashion- had awakened that one familiar feeling only he could evoke in you.
Nick went silent at James' words and you felt blood rush to your tear stained cheeks.
Contrary to popular belief, you were not the chaste future Queen saving herself for her wedding night and King like the royal protocol demanded.
But in your defense, the then future King, James, himself was the one who had defiled you because you were already his. And you had let him for you could act all high and mighty as you desired in front of him as well as others due to how comfortably open he had always been about his feelings for you hence presenting a very vulnerable perhaps even a subservient part of himself to you on a silver platter, but also because the man knew how to fuck.
You were addicted to how he felt against you and though you had never brought your suspicion to your lips, you had wondered for the entirety of the time your betrothal had changed to Nick whether the younger twin would ever be able to come even close to his brother.
"Would you look at that?" His coo sounded out of place and ominous due to how the pretend softness stood out from the menace of his tone. "It doesn't seem like she has," your fingers instinctively clawed the air to try and take a hold of his hand to deal with the feeling of his bionic digits invading their way between your petals. "She still weeps and blinks up dumbly at me like a stupid slut all the same" horror filled you as you became hyper aware of Nick's eyes on you, and yet your skin began to buzz at the filthy words that still scratched you in that one way regardless of everything. "Rosey…?" It was chilling how he playfully raised an eyebrow like he wasn't covered in blood and flesh of the people that he had torn apart on his way to you, instead giving you a lazy grin as he spread your privates apart with the back of his hand. "Be honest for once and say, you didn't let him touch you, did you?" Your loins sparked to life when the tip of his finger ghosted over your entrance. "I mean, I know how demanding a whore you really are, common ways can't satisfy you and you don't waste your time on lost causes" James bent down to inch his grin closer to peer down at you and you had to turn your eyes away with a clasping shut of your lids. You had been caught. "The crown matters more than anything, huh?" Your eyes further clenched at his taunt and a shiver reverberated through you when his hot tongue darted out to swipe across the tear stains on your cheeks.
He had promised you during your courting period that he would never allow a single tear to fall from your eyes. It seemed so that even in this state, he was determined to keep it. This way or that.
"I- I belong to someone else now." Having always been treated inferior to your sister, you refused to let go of your only chance at power. So jutting your chin out determinedly you refused to look at him and falter in your stead, for you knew it would make you cave as his face was still that of your protector and pursuer.
Because even if a woman had not the slightest preference for her admirer, the mere knowledge that she was fancied earned him a place in her heart still.
"No, you don't" his words were stern and determined. "You were mine and you are mine" his lips trailed their way down to your neck to mark you his while one of his metal fingers penetrated your intimate band of muscles, causing you to bite back a moan as your pussy clenched defensively; hence intensifying the pleasure. "It's not your fault, really. Your little girl brain is too small to remember the difference between me and him for too long since we are identical, huh baby?" You hated how your traitorous hips betrayed you and began to move in sync with his finger. "But you don't have to worry your pretty little head about that, my sweet rosey…" His lips ghosted over your ear, hot breath fanning your alarmed skin. "I'll just claim you again to remind you" his teeth were sharp and unforgiving against your skin that had faded out the marks of his passion. "And I'll put my heir into that little womb of yours so whenever your tiny mind tries to get too silly again, my child will remind you who you belong to" he refused to acknowledge your protests at that and plopped his fingers out of you just long enough to undo his pants. "Besides," his hard cock easily found its way to your entrance, as always, "isn't procreation one of the duties of the King and the Queen?"
It was then you realized that his transformation had been physical in every sense.
Your eyes widened as your body jolted upwards in shock, lazed out hips now sparking up to life to almost try and get away from the cruel impaler that threatened to intrude it in a manner so devastating that the band feared a ripping of the lining.
James snorted when your pussy refused to accept him and clenched in on itself defensively to shut him out, your petals nearly trembling in fear. "Aw, baby. How cute, you did stay faithful to me after all, huh" shaking his head when you only sobbed in response, he grunted as his huge shoulders moved to attempt an invasion yet again only to be denied. "Tsk, tsk, never learns her lesson, does she?"
"Plea–" your words were cut off by a harsh smack resounding against your pussy lips and you jerked up and into his chest.
"Bad pussy" he seemed to be immersed in a world of his own amusement and lust, ears deaf to your pleas while his dark eyes drank up every last drop you had to offer. "Always playing around with her Daddy" the force of his metal hand was cruel against your tender flesh when three short paced slaps came down on it in quick succession. "Thinking she has a choice, tsk" the next hit was hard and heavy. "It seems she needs to be reminded who calls the shots around here" two concluding slaps later, you were being braced for his cock again and surprisingly enough, your tense little pussy was much more compliant with receiving him this time.
That, and the embarrassing amount of slick that had seeped through your petals as a product of the brief disciplining session.
"You feel that, baby?" His eyes finally looked up into yours as he aligned himself along your entrance. "She's all fixed up for her Daddy now" and then he pushed in.
"Oh!" Your back arched before you could respond since he bottomed out rudely at once, biting down on a sensitive patch of your neck the same time as when he intruded your insides.
The thing was, it wasn't that James wasn't an experimental lover, no. The two of you had done things that you felt mortified to even think about for too long. But it had always been with proper care and vigilance because the then crown prince was very soft on you as he referred to you as his heart. So you treated him like a pet dog and trampled all over his feelings and the liberty you had found in his treatment of you; something you had never been allowed before. You were used to pulling at his strings like a puppeteer.
But now, the way he pulled and twisted you in whatever fashion that he desired…
You never expected the rush of hot need that waved its way over you and the thick arousal that gushed out of your womb to slick his cock to be the result of his manhandling you like you were no more than a doll for him to play with.
And then his touch that you had been deprived of for months was further blocking your intellectual faculties amongst other things.
James' eyes fluttered close as his metal hand reached for your throat to squeeze out the remnants of your refusals. A grunt left him as he let himself reminisce as well as get overwhelmed by the velvet texture of your splotched walls. He brought his face closer to yours and groaned before pressing it into one of your cheeks to press hard, sloppy kisses all over it as his hips moved but only to press harder up your womb.
It was James' custom invented way of getting you completely stretched out for his cock.
… That had grown thrice its size because of his serum procedures.
And the man had already been way bigger than the average.
"J- Jame-s!" You gasped out, struggling to breathe. His stiff tip felt like it was beginning to penetrate something else. "P- Plea-se!"
"What do you want, huh baby?" Your features scrunched together in discomfort as you flexed your fingers again. They needed to be freed so they could hold onto something to cope with the overwhelming penetration.
"Move…" A smirk pulled his lips apart and he opened his dark teal eyes to peer down at you, silently grunting as he pushed deeper at that. "P- Pl-ease–" your tears were starting to become hot and you could feel your nerves bulging against your forehead from the lack of oxygen.
"Will you behave if I do?" Your toes curled as you hissed, the knee that you wanted to bring up as a way to deal with the pain trapped under his heavy thigh.
You timidly nodded because there was not much else left for you to do. It hurt, and you wanted him to move to ease the pain almost as much as you needed him to fuck you.
James clicked his tongue in disapproval and bit down on one of your nipples in a punishing manner, making you jolt upwards in pain. "Use your words, honey." A surge of pure pleasure overwhelmed you and you moaned loudly with satisfied nods, letting him know that you were in the process of complying.
Like you always did when he was buried balls deep in your cunt.
"So you were fucking him when he was courting you, weren't you?!" Nick was furious on the other line, feeling like a lied to fool as you had denied it when he had asked you about it. "I fucking knew it you stupid slut!" The words caused you to clench harder around James' girth as you bit your bottom lip. "I am–" he went to cut the call but a gun entered the frame to press into his temple as his car seemed to come to a halt. You heard a faint 'watch' being told to your fiance.
But for some twisted reason, the way in which Nick's livid eyes now watched you with a quiet rage caused the desire in your hips to only bubble hotter. He didn't have a choice for once and you could go against him all you pleased "I w- will behave… p-lease!" Your eyes had stuck on your fiance so James patted your cheek to redirect your attention to him.
"Eyes on me" the demand was followed by his letting go of your wrists to snake his arms under your waist to hoist you up and in a more convenient position for his cock. You moaned as your fingers found his long hair to hold on to.
"Y- Yes… sir" his leather jacket was coated in blood and human and you did not want yours to add to the mix. So you raked your mind and you raked it hard. "T- Thank you, sir" you rather prided yourself on your opportunistic wit.
James chuckled darkly as he began to reel his hips back, your cavern making a loud decompression sound as a result. You found yourself sighing in relief when his hard skin unglued from yours because for a second it had begun to feel like he was stuck in your channel.
"So fucking clever even with that little brain, aren't we, baby?" Of course you could never truly fool him regardless of how good you were.
"BUCKY! OH!" A vile whine loudly left you when he kissed your chin only to sink down his teeth into it next as his hips snapped against yours to fuck you upwards. He didn't halt this time and pulled out again to back thrust in, his movements slow but visibly desperate to speed up. "FUCK!"
"Ah, there is that girl I raised on this cock and its milk" your chin stung when he finally let go to close his mouth on one of your cheeks now, causing you to shiver from how overwhelmed you felt by the pain in your face and the pleasure that bloomed in your pussy that was inching closer and closer to a proper pounding as result.
"Please fuck your child in me!" It had been far too long. "Please! I need it so bad! Please fuck me full of your children so I can always remember who I belong to!" You liked how Nick watched– had to watch. It almost felt like revenge; a slap you had wanted to hit him stupid with for the longest time for making you feel so low when his brother, who was twice the man he could ever hope to be and your real suitor, never had. James' cock felt just right as he fucked you so good that you began to see neon stars. You didn't care anymore. Or at least, not in the moment. It felt as though your life depended on this release.
Perhaps… it did.
Besides, the silence in your surroundings and gun next to Nick meant James had it covered in some way. Not that it was much of a surprise. His Kingdom had the greatest army to date and those soldiers were loyal and compliant only to him.
"You know what's the best part about this, rosey?" Your mouth was agape as you panted and moaned through it alike, tugging at his silky strands as his ballsack clapped against the beginning of your ass before sliding into your cunt each time, the primal smell of slick, sweat and sex floating in the air around you.
"What is it, my King?" You were shameless with it, as you had always been. "Please tell me" the fake way in which you unclasped your fingers from his hair to scratch one of his cheeks with your nails made him clench his jaw as he squeezed one of your tits, pistoning his cock in and out of you even faster.
"I know you don't mean any of this" you froze momentarily and his crooked smirk morphed into a grin. "But you will before the year's end" you went to speak but his metal hand found your clit just in time and your eyes rolled to the back of your head, nails digging into the stubble of his cheek. "I know you will" him promising you that you'd return his feelings one day wasn't anything new. He had always told you that. However, normally your response would be a roll of your eyes or simply a change of topic. But today, something dangerously final lingered in them and you had no clue why but you found yourself answering;
"Yes, sir! Thank you, sir! I will, sir!" One of his thick nerves twitched against a particularly sensitive spot in your walls the same time his tip found your special bundle of nerves and brutally collided into them, tearing out incoherent screams from deep within you. "Oh- I am– I am–"
"Don't cum" his hand disappeared from your clit and your eyes that you had subconsciously closed flung open as you begrudgingly tugged at his hair with a needy whine. "You don't deserve it" your body violently jiggled up and down in his arms as you vehemently shook your head.
"NO! PLEASE!" If there was one thing he didn't appreciate, it was you raising your voice at him. But you couldn't help it, your build up was nearing its edge and the fear that it would topple over all wrong after such a long time scared you. Because once an orgasm was ruined, there was no coming back from it. James had taught you that one night after a ball when you had danced with someone a little too frankly.
"No?" He was panting himself as he hugged your waist closer to his, the feeling of his cock's imprint pressing against both of your stomachs only making him slam you down harder and harder. "So you deserve it?"
You quickly shook your head as your boobs flew about, pussy trying to close on itself out of sensitivity when his metal fist closed around your throat again. "N- No! No! I don't, sir!" Your voice altered in a humiliating manner when he squeezed and your dry throat pressed in on itself, making you cough.
"That's right" his hand parted from your neck long enough to slap you. "Think you can just say your pathetic little pretty please and I'll forgive you for forgetting my existence the moment I wasn't good enough for you?" You sobbed out of frustration, willing your hips into squeezing themselves closer together so you could hold on from falling over.
"No!" He slapped you again, the force causing your head to turn sideways this time around. "No, sir!" Desperately reaching for the artificial hand you pressed humiliating kisses all over it. "But it's been so long! Please, my King!" Your back arched from the strength it was taking you to keep yourself from cumming. "I need you so bad! I need it so bad!" In your confusion and oversensitivity you dropped your head against his, your knees trembling. "Only you can make me cum! I tried for months! So many times in so many different ways!" The tears of embarrassment were hotter than those of need that you had been weeping all this time. His movements faltered a little at your confession. "But nothing worked! Only you do! So please! Please let me cum! I don't know what I will do if you don't! Please let me cum and give me your babies!"
"Only I work, huh?" His voice was eerily quiet, a new kind of dark exploding in the air about him. You vigorously nodded, genuine for once in your life.
James' chuckle was the only thing your hazy mind registered before you were moved, twisted, turned and bent faster than you could keep up with.
The next time your consciousness caught up with the present you were facing your phone, on your knees like an animal as your build up slowly subsided. Though your vacant pussy was plunged full soon after, your legs getting pulled apart before being hoisted up in the air by James' hand, your elbows the sole support of the upper half of your body now.
"Tell him how badly you want to be stuffed full of my children and I'll let you have it" blood rushed to your face to bubble under the skin when your eyes locked with those of the stoic male at the same time but before you could hesitate, James cock began to move inside you although torturously slow. "You might want to hurry up, rosey. I don't have all night" the spank that his words accompanied sparked you into motion like someone pressed a button on you.
"Please, Nick!" The thrusts sped up and your claws dug into the mattress. "I want James' children so bad!" There wasn't much emotion on the male you faced but the bright red of his ears and neck even in the dim lighting of the car indicated that he was both furious and humiliated. Perhaps even more so than you. "Please! Please ask him to stuff me full of his babies!" The more slaps rained down on your ass as your pussy expanded to welcome James balls deep inside you with each brutal thrust, the more your mouth ran on the most vile autopilot. "All I want in my life is to be fucked swollen and heavy with his children with my body wrapped up in his color while I nurse the other ones!" James cursed before his hand reached for your front to dip between your legs and you moaned before your arms gave out and you fell face first.
"You heard her, now tell him that" as your cheek rubbed against the mattress everytime you were pounded into it, you heard a man speak to Nick. The Prince tried to protest but something– probably the gun pressing against his head caused him to stop before he gritted out a few seconds after;
"... Fuck your children into her and wrap her swollen body in your colour, James" the man reminded him that it was King James, for whatever reason and Nick sighed before correcting himself. "Please, King James" you couldn't help the whimper that forced itself out of you at his menacing tone.
Your back arched when the frantic circular motions of his fingers became too much for your cunt to handle and you clenched around his girth again, shuddering as you prepared yourself to get in trouble for the orgasm you were about to have.
But then your dependable luck did its thing. "Cum," the vibration of the spank buzzed through your whole body, "cum for me" as your tense muscles relaxed and you closed your eyes to let go, you felt James' hot seed explode within you, the force of his thrusts causing the cum to go flying all about.
Your eyes fluttered shut and the only two things you registered for the next few minutes were shaking profusely while limb paralyzing pleasure exploded through you and the rapid rubbing of your cheek against the soft bed covers which was result of the brutal pounding you were receiving from behind.
When he was done with you, he slowly untucked himself from you and left you trembling on the mattress while he fixed himself up. "Natasha!" Your ears perked up at the name of his second in command and you trembled at his volume. The heavy doors to your chambers opened and closed after the woman in question.
The red head clicked her tongue as she approached the bed, the heels of her boots faintly clicking against the floor as she walked. "Could've done better…" You jumped from how close she sounded when she spoke. "Because she's still awake" the hair on the top of your head was fisted into his metal arm to pull you up and you had to hurriedly scramble to cover your blushing jizz covered ass.
"For what's going to happen next" you whimpered at his words as you were moved onto your trembling knees by the humiliating hold that the man had on your hair and your whole body shook under the stern woman's scrutinizing glare. Peeking up at the red head through your lashes, you went to cover yourself up but James' scold for you to stay put had you planting your wrists in your lap within the next second. "Hands down" you hurriedly lowered your head too to avoid further increasing his ire.
Some shuffling sounded from above you before James approached you again. "Arms up, baby" the endearment must mean that you would be spared… right? You quickly complied with the utmost obedience and James placed a comfortable black gown on you before stepping back to reach for something else.
You almost gasped when you recognized the brilliant glimmer from your peripheral vision.
His mother, The Queen's, crown.
"There you go" you felt him place it on your head and your heart dropped. "Everything you always wanted placed on that silly little airhead of yours, baby" an embarrassing gasp escaped you when he suddenly pulled you closer by your throat. "Are you happy now, my sweet rose?" Your eyes welled up with confusion and how he suddenly slapped you before pressing his lips against yours roughly.
"He asked you a question, brat" you jumped at how Natasha spoke up suddenly, clearly fed up with you blinking up at him dumbly.
"That's no way to speak your Queen, Nat" your heart warmed up at how he clicked his tongue at the woman disapprovingly. "Tsk."
"Y- Yes. Yes" you nodded, still in a daze of post-orgasm sensitivity and general puzzlement at the absurd turn of events from an already shocking situation. "Yes, sir. Thank you so much."
He was smiling now. "Good girl" before he pecked your lips and held his hand back for Natasha to hand him something else. "You can rule all of them" your face burnt when your mind registered the accessory that he wrapped around your throat next. A collar and a leash embedded with sparkling diamonds. "I just want to rule you" his metal hand rotated in the air as he wrapped the leash around his bionic digits. "Let's go" you nearly fell on your face as you were pulled off the bed before being marched straight to the heavy doors.
Natasha opened them to reveal your entire family and staff standing mortified outside on weapon point of James' army. You whimpered and lowered your head in embarrassment until your chin touched the area between your collar bones, fingers tightening around your gown as you suddenly became hyper aware of the faint dig of the edges of the collar against your pampered skin.
"The King has called the alliance off" Steve, your owner's right hand, announced in his firm and curt voice. "The only reason why he has spared you, I must add just this once, is because you are related to the Queen. Any efforts of contact from here on out will lead to unsavory consequences akin to those his own family has met" a chill raised in your spine as your blood dropped in temperature. Holy fucking shit. They really had made a beast out of this once too noble to be true man. "Lastly, not that any of you really care but if the Queen ever wishes to visit, she will be allowed to do so after she has provided His Highness with an heir, accompanied by some of the best that the army can provide."
The walk out to the numerous sleek black SUVs felt like one of shame despite you wearing the crown you had always fantasized about.
And perhaps that's exactly what it was.
A balancing of the scale.
For betraying the one who loved you so dearly that even in his mindless state, he had known not to hurt you.
At least, not in a way that hadn't made your silly little pussy weep for more.

A long night passed and the morning came. Well, if you can trust the clock. There were no windows at the Outpost for sunlight to penetrate the room, although even if there were some, it would not matter since after the bombs the sun disappeared behind a thick wall of fog. Fog of death.
I woke up with chills and sweat. Something haunted my dreams all night, making me shiver like a little lamb. Even though it was an unpleasant feeling, it added color to a pathetic parody of life that I have been having for the last 18 months.
Yesterday’s events bothered me. Moreover, they annoyed me. It was bright as day, that Langdon was messing with all of our minds, yet some part of my silly brain wanted me to believe that I was truly special. That he saw something, that no one else could.
I slowly walked to the bathroom. My bare feet touched the cold marble and I involuntarily shivered. I was tired. A mess. I washed my face and sighed, looking at myself in the mirror. Suddenly I noticed a motion somewhere behind, I turned my head and flinched. Snakes. They were crawling from the bath. Devilish creatures hissed showing me their poisonous fangs. I quickly ran out of the bathroom shutting the door behind me. What the hell? I caught my breath and sat on the edge of the bed. Are there snakes in my bathroom? I felt like I was going insane. Something cold touched my feet. Snakes. I jumped on the bed with a gasp. My closet and floor near it were full of them. They swarmed, intertwining with each other. Dozens of snakes. The other second I was already at the door, running to the hallway. Still barefoot in a white Victorian nightgown that Ms. Venable made us wear. I backed away from the room door and my back hit something soft. I turned around quickly, facing Michael Langdon's piercing blue eyes.
“Something wrong, Ms. Y/S?” he asked, preventing me from falling.
I stared at him for about a minute before words rolled out of my mouth.
“Snakes. There are snakes in my room.” My voice was hoarse, my fingers dug into the sleeves of his jacket.
He was clearly amused by my state, studying my expression. Langdon chuckled, "Oh, really? Snakes, you say?" His eyes shone with a sly glint. I watched as he pushed me aside and glanced toward the room I had just run from.
"May I?" he asked, and entered the room without waiting for my reply. I slowly followed him. To my horror, as we entered I saw nothing. Snakes were gone. Impossible.
“They were here. I swear to God they were here.” I mumbled looking around the room.
I noticed Langdon’s face contorted in hostility.
“Don’t say such stupid words, Ms. Y/S. It’s unnecessary here.”
I closed my face with my hands and sighed. Considering my appearance and edgy state, I totally looked like a mad woman. Nobody believes a mad woman.
“I believe you,” Langdon said, approaching me as if he read my thoughts. “Strange things sometimes happen. But it’s just… interesting that it happened in your room.”
"What do you mean by that?" I furrowed my eyebrows, my gaze searching his face.
“You probably know that snakes have always been representing sin. It’s their main dignity. Servants of darkness… if you believe in symbols, of course.”
I let his words sink in briefly, my gaze drifting to the ground lost in thought. Snakes… sin… Snakes slithering in the garden of Eden… temptress Eve... I understood where he was going.
I huffed at that, scoffing. "Is that your way of calling me sinful? A corrupted soul? Please, spare me the Bible lessons."
Langdon raised an eyebrow at my comment, a playful smirk on his lips.
"Oh, I'm not calling you sinful," he said, leaning against the nearby wall, his eyes roaming over me from head to toe. “But as you said it… it would be amusing to see you getting corrupted.”
I rolled my eyes. "Then what are you calling me?" I retorted, my voice betraying a hint of irritation. I crossed my arms over my chest, trying to regain some composure.
Langdon chuckled at my defensive stance. His eyes gleamed with amusement. He pushed himself off the wall and slowly approached me.
"Are you always so feisty in the mornings?" he asked, his voice low and smooth.
I gulped as he came closer, a mix of annoyance and something else stirring inside me. His intense gaze made me feel cornered and yet, strangely… excited? My breath hitched as he was now standing directly in front of me, the space between us barely existent.
He raised his hand, a single finger tracing an invisible line down my cheek. "Or is it just my presence that gets you going?" he murmured, his voice dripping like honey.
The touch of his fingertip felt like a small electrical shock to my system. I tried to control my breathing, determined not to let him see me flustered.
"Your presence is hardly something exciting," I retorted, my voice a bit shaky. "It's more... irritating."
He smirked at my response. His finger trailed lower, down my jawline, and stopped at my chin, tilting my head up to meet his gaze.
“Well, as I recall it was you, who fell into my arms with fear, m?”
I hated how his words were effective. I hated how true they were. I hated myself for being so affected by his presence.
I tried to compose myself, my jaw clenched tightly. "I was just surprised," I mumbled, trying to sound nonchalant, but my heart was beating too hard for any nonchalance. “There were snakes all over the room.”
Langdon chuckled, his thumb left my face and he slowly started walking toward the door.
"Indeed there were," he replied, casually leaning against the door frame. He seemed relaxed as if the topic was of no real importance.
I watched him for a moment, trying to decipher his nonchalant behavior. He was enjoying this, the way he was playing with me. The way he was playing with everyone.
"Are you going to explain what happened here, or just act like it's normal for snakes to appear out of nowhere?" I asked, unable to hide the annoyance in my voice.
Langdon chuckled at my question, that arrogant smirk never leaving his lips. "Isn't the mystery part of the thrill?"
He walked out, closing the door behind me, leaving me again excited and annoyed. Silence engulfed the room after he left. I was left standing there, my heart pounding in my chest, my mind replaying the events that just occurred.
I sighed and walked over to the bed, sitting down on the edge with a thump. The silence was deafening, the only sound being the steady beat of my heart. I couldn't shake off the feeling of… anticipation. Anticipation for the next time I would see him. That son of a bitch.
I quickly dressed up and went to the day room. We didn’t have breakfast there. We barely ate at all. Some kind of nutrition cube at lunch and water. Balanced diet.
No one yet tried to break the rules of the house that Ms. Venable had set, so when I entered the room almost everyone was already there. Same people, same walls, same music. I was going insane.
I took my usual seat, the conversations around me blending into a dull murmur. I felt suffocated as if I was drowning in the monotony. All I could think about was the next part of the interview with a representative of the Cooperative.
Sanctuary could be a lie, who can verify that? All this can be a way to manipulate us. Even Ms.Venable was afraid, she didn’t trust him but obeyed. We were a flock of sheep in a pen with a hungry wolf.
I was lost in thought when I noticed someone settling into the seat beside me. I turned my head to see Mr. Gallant.
"You seem lost in thought," he noted, his voice soft. "Everything alright?"
“Yeah, just… had an unpleasant morning,” I answered shortly, not wanting to tell him anything. I replayed all morning and yesterday's events in my head again and felt anger in my body. It made my blood hotter.
He had no time to answer, as Ms. Venable walked into the room. Her presence immediately silenced the conversations. Her expression was stern, and she scanned the room with a critical eye.
"Good morning," she began, her voice steady and authoritative. She leaned on her cane and raised her voice a bit. “Today we are having a special treat. Don’t be late for lunch.” She turned from us and slowly started walking away, her heels echoing through the walls.
“Oh, by the way,” she stopped for a second but hadn’t turned her head. “Ms. Y/N, Mr. Langdon is waiting for you in the interview room.” She said harshly as if his name was disgusting to her.
I could feel the eyes of the others on me as they turned their gazes in my direction. I stood up slowly, trying to seem unbothered.
The walk to the interview room seemed longer than usual, the silence only interrupted by my footsteps and my rapidly beating heart. I will beat this motherfucker.
I knocked on the door of his cabinet and entered. There he was, sitting on the table, as he was waiting for me in that position intentionally. His pose was casual but deliberate. His gaze met mine, a smirk on his lips.
"Ah, Ms. Y/N," he greeted, his tone mocking yet playful. "Sit down please."
I tried to retain my composure, refusing to let him see any hint of my nervousness. I sat down in the chair opposite him, trying to maintain some distance, yet feeling the closeness of the cramped room.
"What do you want?" I asked, my voice steady but cold.
“Well, It’s the second part of your interview-” He began but I interrupted him.
"Cut the act, Langdon.” I snapped, my voice coming out harsher than I intended. “This psychotic bitch with her ridiculous rules is already sucking our blood, I don’t want another arrogant dick here, who thinks he can intimidate us. We both know this isn't a real interview. Even if Sanctuary is true, selection is just part of your manipulation."
Langdon raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "Oh really?" He stood from the table and slowly started to circle me, like a shark circling wounded man in the water. I instinctively followed his movements with my eyes. "And why would I come to the Outpost then?" He stopped behind me, leaning closer, his breath warm against my ear.
I felt my breath hitch as he came closer, his breath sending a shiver through my body. I resisted the urge to lean away, instead sitting ramrod straight in my chair.
"You tell me," I retorted, my voice betraying a hint of the unease I was feeling. He continued to circle me, his presence making the room feel even smaller.
Langdon chuckled at my response, his footsteps echoing around me as he completed his circle. He stopped in front of me. Smile gone.
“You are scared. It’s okay to be scared.” His calmness filled my mind with anger.
“I’m not.”
He smiled and leaned closer, resting his hands on the back of my chair, boxing me in with his arms.
“Of course you are,” he chuckled. His gaze fixed on mine. “And you should be.”
His arms on either side of my chair made me feel trapped. I could feel the power radiating from his body, and I had to fight the urge to lean back. I inhaled his smell, expensive cologne. Sweet, yet bitter, he smelled like dominance. It was hypnotic.
His chuckle was almost mocking as if he knew the effect he was having on me. I raised my chin defiantly.
"Why would I be scared of you?"  I retorted, my voice steady despite the lump in my throat. “You are nothing more than the obedient dog of The Cooperative.”
As words rolled out my mouth, I almost immediately regretted saying them. His smirk faded, eyes flashed with irritation and something even worse. I felt fear scratching my heart.
"Careful," he warned, calmly. "I'd watch your tongue if I were you. You don’t want to lose it, do you?”
I swallowed hard, my bravado wavering under his intense gaze. His threat lingered in the air like a shadow, and I knew he meant it.
"I'm not intimidated by your empty threats," I managed to say, without thinking. Dumb bitch.
Langdon chuckled darkly, and the sound made goosebumps rise on my skin. Before I could say anything, his hand shot out and wrapped around my throat, not really choking me, but just enough to be a warning.
"Empty threats?" he repeated, his voice a dangerous whisper. "You think I'm bluffing?" His grip tightened slightly, causing a gasp to escape my lips. I could feel my eyes widen in panic, but I tried to maintain a brave expression. “Tsk, tsk, I can already imagine how nice it would be to cut out that pretty tongue of yours.”
I couldn't help the whimper that escaped my lips at his threat. His grip on my throat was strong, constricting just enough to make me gasp for breath.
"You... you wouldn't dare," I somehow managed to squeak out, my voice sounding weak and fearful.
“Oh you think your pathetic life costs anything?” he leaned closer to whisper in my ear. “I could stab your stomach and rip out your little heart with my bare hand and no one could stop me.”
His words stung like a physical blow, and I felt my heart race in panic. He was deadly serious, looking at me like I was nothing more than a nuisance.
"Please," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "Please don't."
Langdon's hand tightened the grip around my throat. He smiled at my pleading, a cold, cruel smile.
"Begging already?" he asked, his voice mocking. "And after you so bravely challenged me."
My hands scrambled to pull away his wrist, trying to loosen his tight grip on my throat. I couldn't speak, could barely gasp for air.
His smile widened at my futile struggle, he enjoyed playing. He leaned closer, his face inches away from mine.
"This is what happens when you challenge someone with power," he murmured. "You get humbled."
I was unable to say a word, strangled by his hand, tears starting to well up in my eyes. The room started to spin, and my vision became disoriented.
“Still, have hesitation about my authority?” he asked, his tone almost soothing.
"N-no... no..." I managed to choke out.
His hand released its grip on my throat, allowing me to gasp for air. My body slumped against the chair, trembling uncontrollably. I took a moment to recover from his grip, my heart still pounding and my breath shaky. I felt smaller under his gaze, like a mouse trapped under the eye of a snake.
Langdon chuckled at my reaction, his eyes glinting with cruel enjoyment. "Pathetic," he said, the word dripping with derision.
I looked away, unable to meet his gaze. The feeling of helplessness was overwhelming, and I knew he was relishing every moment of my humiliation.
Langdon reached out, his fingers gripping my chin tightly, forcing me to look at him. His touch was rough, a stark contrast to the smoothness of his voice as he spoke.
"Now can you listen to me?"
I nodded weakly, my throat still sore from his assault. Langdon saw the fear in my eyes, and his smile widened at the sight.
"Good," he murmured, his hand slowly releasing my chin.
His gaze never left me, his eyes scrutinizing every reaction I made.
"You were smart enough to figure out the whole interview thing," he said, his tone casual yet calculating. "But you're not smart enough to know when to keep that pretty mouth shut." Langdon chuckled, a twisted sound that made me flinch. "Still, I appreciate the fire," he said. "Most of the other 'interviewees' are a little too... shallow, I’d prefer most of them dead by evening."
His eyes never left mine, studying me intently. I tried to hide any emotion.
"They all tremble before the thought of going to The Sanctuary and willing to please me in any way. But you're…," he continued. "You're unfortunately not satisfied with just being an obedient pretty face. No, you have an attitude. And that, my dear, is your undoing."
“M’sorry.” I breathed out quietly.
"Apologies mean nothing," he said smiling. "The main thing is understanding how everything works. So tell me, did you truly understand the lesson here, or does your pretty little head need another reminder?" His tone was cold and condescending, making me feel even smaller.
The fear that had subsided slightly came rushing back, cold and constricting - raw.
"No, no, I..." I stammered. "I understand."
Langdon chuckled. "See, now that wasn't that difficult, was it?" he crooned, his hand reaching out to trace a finger along my jawline. His touch was mocking, a cruel gesture that sent a shiver of disgust through me and I diligently tried to hide it. It was hard not to move away. He seemed to enjoy my discomfort, his eyes glinting with amusement.
“Now we can have a productive talk.” He said, turning away from me. “You have brains, I’ll give you that. So why not put them in use, hm?”
I could feel a slight sense of relief as he turned away from me, but it was quickly replaced by a wary uncertainty. His change in demeanor was unpredictable, and I had no idea what was coming next.
"What... what do you mean?" I asked, my voice betraying my unease.
He began pacing back and forth in front of me, his hands clasped behind his back.
"You're clever, resourceful... more useful from. And I hate to see potential go to waste."
He stopped in front of me, his eyes studying me intently. I could practically feel the gears in his mind turning as he weighed his words.
"But the problem is, you're stubborn," he said finally. "And that stubbornness leads to insolence."
He leaned in, his face mere inches away from mine. The smell of his cologne hit my nose again. Crisp and masculine scent.
"And insolence, my dear," he said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Is a trait I don't tolerate."
“I understand that.” I said semi-calmly.
“Oh, you are a quick learner as well.” he murmured. “Good girl.” His tone was still mocking, and I hated how the praise sent a flicker of warmth through me. I tried to remain stoic, but his words were starting to chip away at my defenses.
He stepped back, his gaze still locked on me.
"I have an offer for you," he said. "An offer that could benefit us both, if you play your cards right."
“What offer?”
“I want you,” he began. “To work for me.”
“Work for you?” I asked dumbly.
He chuckled at my confusion, enjoying my surprise.
"Yes, work for me," he confirmed. "You'll be doing research, digging up information on others, doing necessary tasks, anything I need. Think you can handle that, hm?"
“But… how?” I wasn’t expecting that offer at all. And how the fuck should I dig on others?
Langdon smiled at my question, obviously finding it amusing that I wasn't catching on.
"How?" he echoed. "You seemed smarter a few minutes ago."
He leaned against the table again, crossing his arms over his chest.
"You'll be my eyes and ears, gathering intel for me. You'll tell me everything you see, hear or feel. And in return… I’ll put in a good word for you with the members of the Cooperative."
I sat there, watching him silently.
He waited a moment, letting his words sink in. He was watching me intently, waiting for my reaction.
"I can see the wheels turning in your head," he began. "You're thinking about all the possibilities, aren't you? Life at The Sanctuary is heaven if you are friends with the authorities." He smirked.
He was right. The possibilities were spinning in my head like a whirlpool.
But I knew there was a catch. People like Langdon never offered anything without expecting something in return. Something much bigger than collecting information.
“What’s the catch?”
He smirked at my question. His eyes were glittering with satisfaction, clearly enjoying his little game.
"Ah, are you always so suspicious or am I an exception?" he asked, tilting his head a bit.
“You think I shouldn’t be suspicious of the man who almost choked me to death a few minutes ago?” My tone filled with venom and I bit my tongue, afraid to anger him again.
“Don’t be so dramatic, it was just a friendly reminder” he said leaning closer to me, whispering. “And don’t act like you didn’t enjoy that, you are bad at hiding it.”
My heart skipped a beat, a mix of anger and embarrassment rushing through me.
"Enjoy that?" I shot back. "Why would I enjoy being strangled by a sick psychopath?"
He smirked at my outburst, seemingly unfazed by my anger.
"Now now, no need for name-calling," he said with mock hurt. "You can lie to yourself if it gives you comfort, but I saw the way you reacted, the way your body tensed, and the way your pupils dilated."
His gaze roamed over me in an almost predatory manner, making me feel exposed.
“Anyway, we have more important things to discuss than your sexual desires.” He smirked. “Accept my offer?”
His brazen, almost predatory manner was as infuriating as it was intoxicating. I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment, but I refused to look away.
"Accept your offer..." I echoed, trying to sound strong. "You haven't exactly explained the full extent of this 'job' you're offering. I need more details before I can even consider it." I forced the words past my lip.
“It’s easy. You are loyal to me and I promise you protection. It’s always useful to have an intelligent, pretty head on your side.” he said, looking me up and down. “Before me, you were all alone among bastards, but now I offer you my hand and I really don't recommend biting it.”
“So I have to become a backstabber?”
"No, my dear, you're thinking too low. You won't be backstabbing anyone. You'll merely be... helping me to form a new society. " He paused, his expression growing more serious. "Don’t tell me you are afraid of getting your hands bloody, I saw the way you look at Ms. Venable. You are bloodthirsty."
My eyes widened at his observation. I wasn't surprised he had caught on to my hatred for Ms. Venable, but hearing him say it out loud was another matter.
"I'm not scared of getting my hands dirty," I said, my voice firm despite the shiver that ran down my spine. "I'm just not fond of being used."
Langdon sat on the edge of the table and smiled, almost genuine, he looked at me like I was a little kid.
“Come here.” he said calmly and beckoned me with the nod of his head.
I hesitated, not sure whether to obey his command or not. I slowly stood up and walked over to him, stopping a few feet away from him. It was crazy how he was radiating comfort and dominance at the same time.
“Closer. I won’t bite.”
I stepped closer and his hand reached to stroke my hair.
“You are special.” His voice was surprisingly gentle as he spoke. His fingers tangled in my hair, his touch both soothing and possessive. “You can achieve a lot or… stay here and rot with others.”
His words were like a cold bucket of water, snapping me out of the odd comfort I found myself in. I knew he was right, of course. Staying here meant settling for a life on the sidelines, living in fear and boredom. Or just die.
"You don't play fair, do you?" I said, my voice tinged with irritation. "One second you're choking me, the next you're stroking my hair and promising me the world."
"And why should I play fair, hm? Rules don't work anymore here, chaos has won." He leaned closer.
I found myself smiling despite myself. It was probably still a shock. My mind couldn't keep up with what was happening. There was a dangerous charisma to him, an irresistible charm that I couldn't quite explain.
"That’s a convenient excuse for you to do whatever you want," I shot back, trying to sound defiant. "No rules means no boundaries."
Langdon chuckled again, his smirk widening. His hand slid down from my hair to rest on my throat again, his thumb brushing against my pulse.
"Careful," he warned, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I might start thinking you're enjoying this a bit too much." I freeze. “And about the rules… I prefer bending them, instead of breaking."
I didn’t answer, waiting for him to continue. He smiled, clearly enjoying my reaction. His thumb traced lazy circles on my throat, making my pulse quicken involuntarily.
“You don’t want to die here, do you?” He whispered in my ear. “It would be a shame if such potential would remain undisclosed…” His hand moved lower, gently touching my collarbone. “In this body.”
His touch ignited a strange fire inside me. I desperately tried to ignore the way my body reacted to him, the way my heart raced and my skin tingled where he touched me.
"You make it sound like I'm a ticking time bomb." My voice came out a little breathier than I intended.
"Oh, don’t sell yourself short, darling," Langdon purred. "You’re more like a grenade. A beautiful, deadly grenade.” His hand caressed my skin. “So… Do we have a deal, Ms. Y/N?”
I stared down at the floor, then back at Langdon, my gaze calculating. After a few seconds I nodded. “Deal.”
“Wise.” He smiled. “Now let’s make that official.”
His left hand went to grab my waist, while the other reached out to take something from the table. Small dagger. I instinctively tried to pull back, but his grip on me was unwavering
“No need to be scared, little lamb.” He handed me the weapon with the hilt forward.
“Official?” I echoed.
“Yes. Deal in blood.” His answer made my body flinch.
The cool metal of the dagger felt heavy and unfamiliar in my hand.
“Aren't you afraid that I would stab you?” I asked him, trying to hide my fear.
Langdon chuckled darkly, liking the question.
"You wouldn't dare," he said with absolute confidence. "You're far too smart and too… intrigued by me to do something so foolish."
His eyes glittered dangerously like he was daring me to prove him wrong. "And besides... I have a feeling you're far more interested in finding out what it would be like to be on my good side."
He directed my hand, in which the dagger was clutched, and leaned the tip against the palm of his left hand. “Cut.”
I watched in fascination and slight horror as the blade made a small incision in his hand, a thin line of blood forming on his palm. He didn’t even flinch, his gaze locked on mine the entire time. It awakened in me something feral.
“Now you,” he said, his voice low and steady.
He grabbed my hand, his grip gentle but firm, and guided the knife to my palm. The sharp pain was muffled by his lips on my cheek. The warm blood slowly pooled in my palm.
He pressed his wounded hand against mine, the touch inflicted pain. The blood from his hand mingled with mine, the warmth and stickiness of it a strange and yet somehow comforting sensation.
 "And with that..." he said, his voice hushed. "Our deal is sealed."
I felt the burning urge to press my lips to his. Without clearly thinking I leaned to his face, kissing him hungrily. He didn’t return the kiss, but didn’t pull away either.
"Now, now, dear," he said, his voice a low murmur. "Don't get ahead of yourself. No need to complicate things…"
His gaze flicked down to my lips, his own curving into a smug smile. I was ashamed of my bold move and confused by his stubbornness. He was a man after all, wasn’t he?
"Complicate?" I repeated, my voice tinged with sarcasm. "Says the one who just made me swear a blood pact."
Langdon chuckled, amused by my attempt at irritation. "Ah, don't pout," he said, his hand moving to gently cup my jaw.
"Just because I'm not giving in to your every desire doesn't mean I’m inaccessible.” He leaned closer to my ear. "But keep pushing, darling. I do love it when you act up, maybe next time you wil get lucky." He carelessly brushed his lips along my wound, making me whimper quietly, my eyes fluttering shut for a moment. God, he is killing me.
Langdon pulled back, a satisfied smirk playing at the corners of his lips. His hand left my jaw, and I found myself missing the feel of his touch already. I leaned forward, wanting him to touch me.
"Ah ah ah," he tutted, his voice mockingly chiding. "I can practically feel your eagerness, my dear. But I'm afraid I can't have you slacking off on our deal."
He gestured lazily to the door. "You should return to your routine. Can’t have Ms. Venable catching you slinking around here for too long."
I bristled at his order, but I knew he was right. I nodded grudgingly.
"Fine."
I started to walk toward the door, my wounded hand throbbing a little from the recent events. But before I reached the threshold, Langdon's voice stopped me.
"Oh, and Y/N?"
I turned back, raising an eyebrow questioningly.
His eyes were glinting mischievously.
"A word of advice," he said, his voice dripping with mockery. "Try to control that urge of yours. It's going to get you in trouble..." He paused, his gaze roaming up and down my body. "Or is it already too late?"
“Check it yourself next time,” I answered boldly and grabbed the door handle.
I couldn’t see his face, but was sure that he was amused.
"I might just take you up on that offer." I heard his smooth voice, as I left the room. "Off you go, little lamb."
I shut the door behind me and leaned on it with my back. Probably that’s what it feels like to sell your soul to the Devil.

Being the youngest member of 141 (platonic)
Codename: Shark/Sharky
Age: 20
Part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5
Inspired by the many works of this concept! But most specifically @meatonfork and their grim stories!

Being the youngest member of a task force of grown men who’ve stared death in the face around every day of their lives is an accomplishment in itself
Getting close with them though is an entirely different goal that you’ve somehow accomplished in your time at 141
Your kinda not sure how it happened
Like you were brought on as additional support on a mission of theirs. Unlike the others though you’d stood out
Partially due to your smaller stature cause of your young age compared to literally everyone else (even Gaz)
He’s the most hesitant of the bunch to get closer to you. Afraid that his presence will be like a curse that leads to your life being cut short.
But your stubborn though, like a shark refusing to give up on chasing its prey.
But your stubborn though, like a shark refusing to give up on chasing its prey.

But your stubborn though, like a shark refusing to give up on chasing its prey.
It starts with small improvements you could make in simple stuff like your stances. He sees it during some training and he takes the time to show you what to do.
He tries to leave it at that but you come to him asking for more help in other areas you thought you could do better in. A small smirk on your face as he agrees with a bit of a sigh.
You talk to him during these times. Never shutting up about something funny you saw on tiktok or some weird story.
He appreciates how you don’t ever really expect him to respond, just to silently listen to your ramblings. Knowing he preferred to listen rather than talk.
It’s nice. He begins to look forwards to your training sessions and also starts indulging in joking with you.
His sense of humour doesn’t scare you off, in fact you seem to make more fucked up jokes than he does.
“Damn that hits harder than my parents expectations” the moment after you say this an awkward silence fills the training room. Ghost staring down at you with an unreadable expression on his face, dark eyes peering down from behind his edgy mask. “Kid are you ok?” The moment he asks this your instant response is “no”
Is reallly fucking worried for your mental health. Like he’s constantly checking on you after missions and is the first to volunteer to be at your side if your experiencing something wrong
He’s seen allot of people older than you be permanently scarred by what they’ve seen and end up on dark paths. He’s attached now and refuses to let that happen to you
He hasn’t been on the internet in years so he has no fucking clue what a “vine” is or whatever the fuck is going on your “tick-tack” or whatever the hell that app was named.
But he bears it for your smile and giggles as you show him a video of a puppy
He won’t mention it but at some point he gets a tattoo of a small nurse shark circling his forearm.
A symbol of your impact on his life
If you steal a mask of his you’ll find one tailored to properly fit you a few days later slipped under your door with a small note
Calls you “kid, brat, and (when he’s feeling soft) Sharky or ankle biter”
On missions with you he tends to try and have you in eyesight unless it’s completely necessary not to
A subtle way of keeping his protective side in reign but also let you do what you do best
Be prepared if you get injured though cause he’s ripping and tearing whoever’s in his path to get to you.
Price on the other hand is also worried but isn’t afraid to get close. In fact, he goes out of his way to welcome you as best he can.
Every morning he greets you with a polite “hello” and “how’s your morning” before offering a cup of tea
Not coffee though. He says it’s bad for your health and your too young to start drinking that shit
You can’t fight him on this either, he goes full dad mode on your ass and places the coffee container somewhere you can’t reach
He often stays up late doing paperwork so if your restless you end up curled up in his office on one of the couches.
He talks about some old stories, snuffing out his cigar so you don’t breath in the smoke.
His voice is perfect to listen too and has an almost instant knock out affect on your sleepy mind
You’ll wake up in your room the next morning, one of his hats snug on your head.
He’s the only one who knows any background information of your upbringing and guards that unless you don’t really care. Even then he’s still very hush hush about your past.
He likes to give a lot of verbal affection.
Just telling you that “you did a good job!” or a “great work out there kiddo”.
Plus a pat on the back and ruffling of your hair to add onto the affection. Will also give hugs if your comfortable with them
Buy him a hat or mug with “ 1# dad/captain” and you’ll see him tear up slightly
“Surprise!!” You place down the small mug that had “worlds best dad captain” written on it, onto his desk. He goes silent, carefully taking it into his hands with a certain gentleness only reserved for moments such as this. “Thought you needed a new one” he still remains silent, staring down in Aw at the mug “thought it would also go good with the “women fear me, fish fear me, men turn their eyes away from me-“. You stop seeing as his eyes begin to gloss over slightly.
“Thanks kid” “no problem old man”
He’s always wanted kids but due to the profession he’s never had the chance to settle down. So getting something like that helps with his lingering feeling of longing and bitterness of knowing he’ll likely never fulfil that dream
But he’s has you now, along with the family he built with the others and that’s good enough for him.
As the youngest you abuse your youngest child privileges on him a shit ton with Gaz.
He just can’t stay mad lol
Unlike Ghost he’s a bit more adept to modern tech though social media has him a bit lost.
Show him all you want but he still won’t be able to comprehend why a dude screaming about something is funny
On missions he already knows Ghost is watching over you so he kinda lets him take the lead in being protective. Though if ghost isn’t there he definitely has either himself or whoever else is on the mission nearby
He also almost always makes sure for missions your paired up with at least one other person.
Soap is immediately becoming your buddy whether you like it or not
After that first interaction he kinda just mentally said to himself “aight this lil shit is sticking with me now” and went from there
Jokes. Holy shit does he have an arsenal of jokes that he tries out with you.
Once he finds your somewhat dark and weird sense of humour he sticks to it, learning what would make you laugh the hardest and feeling super accomplished in succeeding his task
Definitely makes aquatic jokes and tries to buy you sea themed souvenirs
Eventually you gift him a seahorse keychain and it now hangs from his belt. He buys you a shark one in return that you hang from your com.
He has some social media accounts but their relatively bare. He just doesn’t have the time to update them or when he’s not busy he forgets to post anything
You quickly change that and he ends up basically becoming a meme account to piss off ghost as you, him and Gaz team up in talking in slang that makes Ghost and Price so fucking confused.
You and Soap sit side by side with shit grinning faces as Ghost sits as still as a statue with the aura of annoyance. You whisper to Soap something which makes the Scottish man giggle and glance back at ghost. Personally it’s getting on ghost’s nerves but he knows if he asks his ears are gonna be assaulted by some ungodly array of words he was 100% sure wasn’t in the dictionary.
During leave he’s definitely inviting you over to stay with him back in his flat. It’s somewhat small but it’s cozy, definitely a nice stay as he takes you to a football game and gets somewhat rowdy while watching it.
He kinda has the suspicion that you might’ve not had the best home life considering your age in which you voluntarily enlisted. But he doesn’t ask incase of it being a sensitive topic.
Maybe he’s right, maybe he’s wrong but it’s an offer you occasionally take since it makes him more happy than you know
100% teaches you Scottish slang for fun
Is probably the one who calls you “Sharky” the most out of the group and is the one who insists that everyone calls you that
Price has banned him from teaching you on how to make bombs no matter how much either of you plead
That doesn’t stop him from showing you how to set them up though
And that unfortunately (for him and everyone else) also leads you to setting up better pranks due to the knowledge he taught you.
He gets the side eye from ghost every time he wakes up to find a new elaborate glitter tripwire you set up
Gaz needs a moment to warm up to you but once he does he’s joining in on the shenanigans
For the longest time he was the youngest so now he has a chance to be a role model/mentor to someone!
Gaz knows what it’s like to be the metaphorical baby of the team (he still kinda is) so he understands if your feeling overwhelmed by the other’s protective streaks
Will 100% be the only one to understand half the shit you say and be given the title of “shark translator”
“Gaz for the love of Christ please translate that”
“It basically means “I’d rather gouge my eye out with a rusty shit covered spoon than eat any more of the broccoli” honestly same”
“What the fuck”
That just gives him the excuse to make them think that what you said is a whole lot worse tho
He occasionally takes his hat and places it on your head to see it be way to big and obscure your eyesight
Don’t offer instant ramen to him cause he has ptsd from eating a shit ton of it when he was in high school
He has an Xbox 360 and a sega Saturn locked away in his room. He only lets people he trusts know of it’s existence let alone be able to play on it
Your one of the few
He does not judge if you talk to him for an hour about the most obscure piece of media, he’ll probably find it really interesting and end up down the rabbit hole of watching it.
Both of you send the creepy stories chain email to random people on base just to see what’ll happen
Like everyone he kinda assumes you probably came from a shit background. He doesn’t ask about it unless you bring it up, but he always reminds you that him and the team are there for you if you need a place to crash at or talk to
Gets pretty nervous about you on the battlefield cause of the fact your going up against men that are usually 2 times your size. But he doesn’t try to admit it since he remembers when the others felt the same about him.
Is probably the only one who doesn’t get worried about any self-deprivations humour but does kinda get worried about suicide jokes
As a joke y’all call everyone old and make jokes about getting Price a cane next Christmas (which results in about 20 sets if push ups)
He sends random low quality memes you sent to him at 3 am to Price to see if he’ll ask the next morning what “me and the boys at 3 am looking for beans” fucking means.
Like soap he encourages your shenanigans but if he thinks you might get hurt he’s stopping that shit
He carry’s around kids bandaids with characters on them for you as an inside joke
Overall their protective but they don’t overstep the comfort line.
You’ve grown on them like a parasite and now they refuse to cut you off, luckily for them you just seem to latch on even harder.

“Ah, there they are,” Eddie says. “Took them long enough.”
Steve stops chatting with the waitress to follow his gaze. Something is glinting beyond their window, in the tiny space between two cars on the other side of the dark street. A camera. The waitress hurriedly puts down their dessert and scurries off. Steve watches her go with a disappointed frown. Using the moment of distraction, Eddie reaches out across the table and tangles their fingers together.
The frown melts into a bitchy scowl and Steve flinches like Eddie’s hand is something gross.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
Eddie laughs, loud and unashamed in the hushed quiet of the restaurant.
“Aw, sweetheart,” he coos. He flips their entwined hands so they’re facing the window, running his thumb over Steve’s knuckles in a slow, deliberate motion. His smile is wide and teasing as he leans over the table and into Steve’s space. “I must admit I’m a tad bit insulted. I make an effort to look nice for you, take you to the fanciest restaurant in town, and you’ve got nothing better to do than flirt with the waitress all night? Why, Stevie, do you even still love me?”
“Quit it, Munson,” Steve snaps, trying to yank his hand away, but Eddie holds firm. A few quizzical heads turn in their direction and he’s quick to stop struggling. When he speaks again, his voice is a low hiss. “You know as well as me that this is all a publicity stunt. Don’t forget about the deal.”
“Sure,” Eddie drawls, snatching a chocolate-coated strawberry from his plate and popping it into his mouth. The chocolate bursts between his teeth and tangy, juicy sweetness explodes all over his taste buds, making him hum in pleasure. The place may be way out of his comfort zone, markedly different from his usual dark and edgy night clubs, but at least the food is excellent. “We go on a few dates together, let our friends out there take their little photos, write their little news stories. After a few months, we break it off amicably - no hard feelings, you’ll always be special to me, yadda yadda. My label gets off my ass about my ‘out of control’ lifestyle, your old man gets to beat those completely unfounded allegations of homophobia just in time for the big election. Look how supportive he is of his queer son, after all. A true champ, a beacon of tolerance and open-mindedness, a shining example for all of us.”
Steve, who has just taken a sip of his wine, snorts so hard, Eddie’s surprised it doesn’t come shooting out of his nose. He has a nice laugh - pretty like the rest of him, but there’s a bitter little twist to his mouth that never seems to quite disappear. Eddie catches himself wondering what his smile would look like without it.
“Please,” Steve sneers, putting his glass back down with a bit too much force. A few drops of wine splash over the rim, staining the table cloth red. “My dad’s a bigoted old asshole and we both know it.”
The hand that’s still tangled with Eddie’s tightens, almost painfully. A small part of Eddie imagines the things Senator Harrington must call his darling son behind closed doors.
“Makes me wonder, though,” is what he says, “why you agreed to play along in this little farce? Why help him out if he’s such a douchebag?”
For a second, something pokes through the facade of bored indifference on Steve’s face, something open and vulnerable and honest. Eddie wants to grab a hold of it and pull it all the way to the surface, lay it bare and never let it go again. But it’s gone as quick as it came, slipping through his fingers like mist.
“Whatever,” Steve mutters, and the bitter curl returns to his lips. “Not like you’d get it.”
He's right, Eddie thinks. He probably wouldn't. He hasn't seen his own sperm donor in twenty years. He doesn’t know what it's like, growing up in the shadow of an overbearing father, constantly forced to uphold your family's image, to live up to expectations.
But something in the way Steve says it, all haughty and derisive, like Eddie isn't even worth an explanation, makes something ugly stir low in his belly.
“Oh, I think I get it,” he says, plucking another strawberry from his plate. Steve watches with a furrowed brow how he lets it dangle between them, waving it idly about as he speaks. “I think it must be hard, constantly begging for daddy's love and acceptance, but only ever being fed the scraps. Always so eager, always so willing, but never quite good enough, you poor boy. You'll do anything for attention, won't you?”
Steve's eyes go wide, perfect lips parting around a punched-out little sound. Eddie grins triumphantly, lifting the strawberry to his mouth.
But he never makes it there.
Steve surges forward, fingers closing around Eddie’s wrist. Eddie watches, heartbeat pounding in his skull, how Steve sucks the fruit into his warm, wet mouth. How pink lips slip over his fingers, all the way down to the first knuckle. Chocolate cracks and a thin rivulet of red juice trickles down Eddie's thumb. Steve darts out his tongue and catches it, never once breaking eye contact.
“Holy shit,” someone whispers. It takes Eddie a moment to recognize his own voice. He knows it's impossible through the glass and the distance, but he swears he can hear how the camera shutter on the other side of the street goes crazy.
Steve releases his fingers with a slick sound, tongue licking over plush lips to gather the last traces of strawberry and chocolate and Eddie still clinging to them. When he speaks, his voice is hoarse, breath cool against Eddie’s wet skin.
“Let's get outta here … and I'll show you just how much I'll do.”

And then they went home and had hate sex. The end.

Absolutely love your post weirdmageddon Dipper centric fic! Ppl tend to forget that even before all That, the lil guy has always been snarky and protective & Feisty. If anything, what he went thru would def make him even bolder and braver enough to have those traits be more apparent. On another note, I know we saw bits of it on the fic but I just can’t help but be curious on your take of how post Weirdmageddon mabel is doing? Like your head canons and such :O
Hi Anon! <3 Happy Sunday! Thank you so much for your kind words. Dipper Pines being mouthy is one of my favorite things about him.
(For reference: Anon is referring to THIS FIC of mine!)
I would be MORE than happy to lay out some of my post-Weirdmaggedon headcanons for my beloved Mabel Pines.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
✰ Mabel Pines POST-WMAG Headcanons ✰
✰ She and Dipper have their own rooms back in Piedmont. Their parents assume the kids will be excited to have their own space, and they both claim they are. However, Mabel spends the first few months back in California in a sleeping bag on the floor of Dipper's room. Dipper wonders if her own pink, cheery stuffed-animal-littered room reminds her too much of Mabel-Land.
✰ Mabel gets REALLY into scrapbooking. After her scrapbooks saved Stan, she records everything.
✰ She blames herself entirely for Weirdmaggedon. Keeps a smile on her face and the shame shoved way, way down.
✰ Gets caught bringing her grappling hook to school SEVERAL times by teachers. Piedmont MS has a strict "no weapons" policy. She continues to break it. The administration is at their wits end.
✰ When Dipper gets anxious or angry about something to do with Weirdmaggedon, Mabel is the first person to notice. She starts making jokes in a very specific way, entirely directed at him in the hopes he'll be distracted.
✰ Speaking of jokes, Mabel's humor gets DARK. She's got a lot of trauma and nowhere else to put it.
✰ The divorce hits Mabel hard. Even though Dipper thinks he was protecting her from it, she knew. As someone who usually sees the bright side of things, she finds it increasingly hard to rationalize all the bad stuff. The world can end? Love can die? Twins can stop talking to each other for thirty years? Late at night on the floor of Dipper's room, she sometimes stays awake in a numb state of panic.
✰ Mabel's second "first kiss" is freshman year homecoming with the guy she asked to the dance. She teases that it doesn't really count because Dipper didn't kiss him, too.
✰ Sometimes, when Mabel's hair gets really messy (curls, ugh) -- Dipper sits on the floor and helps her untangle it while they watch Ducktective reruns.
✰ After fighting with her hair for too long, Mabel finally cuts it short. Wendy is the first person she texts about it.
✰ Her sophomore year of high school, Mabel goes to a party with some of the more "edgy girls" who are into stick-and-poke tattoos. She does a sort of messy star on her ankle and gets grounded when her parents discover it isn't just sharpie.
✰ Soos, Dipper, and Mabel have virtual game nights where they play shitty browser games on call.
✰ The thing that Mabel fears MOST is losing Dipper the way Ford and Stan lost each other. As Dipper gets more confident and starts making a few more friends at school, interning, and preparing for college, Mabel worries desperately about being left behind.
✰ The moments when Mabel KNOWS they're going to be okay are the times when she and Dipper sit on the couch, scrolling through their phones in mostly silence -- occasionally cracking up and showing each other dumb internet shit. Dipper usually tries to covertly put his cold feet on her. She hits him with pillows.
-----
When I write Mabel, there are a few things I stand by: Mabel Pines is intelligent; she's not the stupid twin. Mabel alleviates her anxiety with humor, silliness, and absurdity -- she chooses underthinking over Dipper's overthinking. She is, in many capacities, just as mature if not more mature than her brother; she worries about him growing up too fast.
If you want more of these, let me know! I am never not thinking about the Pines twins <3

It's deeply concerning and disheartening when someone receives harmful and hateful messages. These types of messages aren't just "mean" or "rude" — they're abusive, dangerous, and reflect a sickness in the way some people use the internet as a weapon. The anonymity that online platforms provide can bring out the worst in some individuals, and they choose to hide behind screens to spew hatred, forgetting that their words have real, painful consequences for real people.This is not just "bullying." It's psychological warfare, an attempt to chip away at someone's self-worth, to make them feel small, unwanted, and alone. It’s a cowardly form of cruelty where people who are too afraid to confront their own issues choose instead to tear down others. The internet should not be a place where people feel unsafe, and yet, here we are. Let’s be clear: anyone who tells someone else to harm themselves is not just "a troll." They are vile, cruel, and should be condemned. The words they use are not just harmless insults. They're part of a larger, systemic issue of abuse that festers online and in our society at large. No one should ever have to read such messages, and no one should ever be made to feel like they're less than human because of what someone, who has no courage to stand by their own actions, decides to say from the shadows.For those on the receiving end of this poison, it's incredibly hard to ignore. These kinds of messages can linger in the back of your mind, even if you know they're coming from someone with no real insight into who you are. It’s a violation, plain and simple. And it can have a profound impact on mental health, especially for someone who is already struggling.To those who feel emboldened to send these messages, know this: your words have weight. You may think it’s just a joke, that you're just "blowing off steam" or that the person you're targeting will shrug it off. But you don’t know what’s going on in that person's life. You don’t know how close they might be to a breaking point. You don’t know how much damage a single message could do. What you're doing is not edgy or funny. It’s reckless. It’s dangerous. And it's despicable.If you're someone who feels the need to tear others down online, ask yourself why. Why do you feel the need to tell someone to hurt themselves? Why do you feel the need to be so cruel? What is it that you're getting out of it? Because behind all that hatred and bile is something broken inside you, too. You're not immune to the damage that hatred causes. It festers in you, too, and it will come back to haunt you.And for anyone reading this who has been on the receiving end of such abuse: you do not deserve it. These words are not a reflection of your worth, but of the emptiness and cruelty of the person who sent them. The world needs you, your friends need you, and you deserve to live your life free from harassment and harm. Hold on to the people who love and support you, and never let the darkness of these hateful voices make you believe you're anything less than valuable. Your existence alone is a defiance against their poison.We all have a responsibility to call out this behavior when we see it, to protect those who are targeted, and to make it clear that this kind of language, this kind of abuse, has no place in our communities, online or off. It’s time to take a stand against this kind of hatred. No more pretending it's just "the way things are online." No more shrugging off the real damage caused by faceless abusers. We need to protect one another, because these words can destroy lives. We need to stop being bystanders. If you see someone being targeted like this, step in. Reach out to them. Offer support. Speak up. Because the person being torn down may not feel they have the strength to fight back on their own. Don’t let hate be louder than kindness.
Spread the word

Through the Cracks *.✧
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The lair was alive with energy as Mikey zipped around, skateboard wheels clattering against the concrete. Music blared from his speaker, something upbeat and chaotic that perfectly matched his vibe. You sat on the couch, legs crossed, mask on, watching him weave through the room with a kind of effortless grace.
“Yo!” Mikey called, executing a perfect kickflip before rolling to a stop in front of you. “You gonna sit there all night like some brooding anime character, or you gonna join the party?”
You tilted your head, deadpan. “Your version of a party involves a lot of potential head injuries.”
Mikey laughed, plopping down beside you, skateboard in hand. “Aw, come on! Live a little! You’re always sitting there all mysterious and cool. Don’t you ever, like, wanna let loose?”
You raised a brow—not that he could see it. “And ruin my carefully cultivated aura of mystery? Pass.”
Mikey gasped, clutching his chest like you’d just insulted his pizza-making skills. “Babe, your aura needs some sunshine! You’ve got the whole dark-and-edgy thing down, but what’s life without a little chaos?”
“Is that your motto?” you asked dryly. “Because it explains a lot.”
“Hey, chaos is my middle name!” Mikey grinned. “Actually, it’s Doctor Delicate Touch, but chaos works too.”
Despite yourself, you felt the corners of your mouth twitch beneath the mask. Mikey had a way of doing that—pulling people out of their heads, even if only for a moment.
“You know,” he said, leaning back and resting his hands behind his head, “you’re kinda like this mask thing I saw in a movie once. Super creepy, but the guy wearing it? Total softie underneath.”
You shot him a look. “Are you calling me a softie?”
Mikey winked. “I’m just saying, you can’t fool me. I’ve seen how you are with the others. You’re like the dark chocolate of friends—kinda bitter, but secretly sweet.”
You groaned, shaking your head. “That’s the worst analogy I’ve ever heard.”
“Maybe,” Mikey said with a shrug, “but I stand by it.”
The room fell into a comfortable silence, the music still thumping softly in the background. Mikey kicked his skateboard back and forth idly, glancing over at you every so often.
“Hey,” he said after a while, his voice softer. “You know you don’t have to keep the mask on with me, right?”
You sighed, leaning back against the couch. “We’ve been over this, Mikey.”
“I know, love, I know,” he said quickly. “But like…you’re cool as is, mask or no mask. Just sayin’.”
You didn’t answer right away, letting his words settle. Mikey wasn’t like the others. He didn’t push, didn’t prod. He just…was.
“Thanks, Mikey,” you said quietly. “For not making it weird.”
Mikey grinned, giving you a light nudge with his elbow. “Anytime, dude. That’s what I’m here for—to keep things chill and make sure you don’t turn into a total hermit.”
You snorted. “Good luck with that.”
“Challenge accepted,” he said, standing up and hopping back on his board. “Now, prepare yourself. I’m about to show you the sickest trick of all time!”
You leaned back, arms crossed, watching as he launched himself across the room with reckless abandon.

Task Failed Successfully
Summary: Boom!Team Sonic is asked by Modern!Shadow to watch his beloved chao companion, Cherry, while he works on building his own house. Well, he asked Amy, but the rest decided to join. Things go horribly wrong when the chao goes missing and the group faces possibly becoming enemies with Modern!Shadow.
Quick Note: Don’t ask how Modern!Shadow knows how to build a cabin, it just had to be done, okay? Also, this ~~~~~~~ is meant to be a bit of a time skip or a change in environment, like in the episodes. I hope this explanation makes reading this easier. Credit to the AU goes to @zumbieve!
Word Count: 5,509
Amy held the hex nut in her hand and reached up to let Bea hover down and eat it from her hand. If not for her gloves, the robot’s metal mouth might’ve felt uncomfortable, but instead they just felt a little tickly. She smiled as Bea made quick work of the hex nut, then fly back up and buzz in happiness. Amy couldn’t help an amused giggle, she thought Bae was so cute and sweet. A knock at the door interrupted their quiet moment.”Coming!” Amy called out. She stood up from her couch and walked over to the door.
She was surprised to see Shadow standing at the door. No, not the edgy one that the group despises, the short one. The one who seems pretty grumpy and unapproachable, but is actually a bit of a softie. Especially to his small companion.”Shadow! How nice to see you!” Amy said. She glanced at the small creature floating behind Shadow and using both stubby little arms to hold onto his shoulder.”And you, too, Cherry!” She said.
Cherry had a striking resemblance to Shadow. Shadow said that she was a “chao”, a creature of chaos energy. Something that the group had very little knowledge of. Cherry smiled at her and waved with one of her arms.
“Good morning, Amy. Is this a bad time?” Shadow asked. He sounded a little tired, and not in the “all done with people” way.
Amy shook her head and stepped back to allow him inside.”Not at all, come on in.” She said. Shadow nodded politely and walked in. Amy closed the door and sat down on her couch, followed by Shadow. Cherry made a few happy sounds when she saw Bea and floated onto the floor. Bea buzzed and laid down to let Cherry pat her on the head.”So what brings you here?” Amy asked. She appreciated the dark hybrid’s company greatly. He was quiet most of the time, but liked a good conversation, and they had a few similar interests.
One of the things they do the most together is tending to the flowers in Amy’s garden. Shadow was experienced in taking care of lavender, which was a big help since she was a beginner with the purple plant. He did her a pretty big favor with that, and when he housesat for her while she was away once.“Would it be any trouble looking after Cherry for a while? I need to work on my house and you seem to be one of the most responsible out of the group.” Shadow asked.
Amy instantly smiled and held back a squeal of excitement.“That little cutie? Of course! However long you need!” She replied. Cherry was a sweet little creature, and she got along with Bea very well. Whenever Shadow came over with her, she could be found playing with Bea. Amy was already excited for how this day would go.”I think I still have a copy of that list you showed me about how to take care of a chao, so don’t worry!” She said. It was true, she’d asked for a copy a while back incase Shadow ever asked her to babysit Cherry.
Shadow gave her a small smile, looking a little relieved.“Thank you. I should be able to finish sometime between the afternoon and evening. She’s slowing down a little, but it’s not a bad thing, I just need you to keep in mind that she might sleep half the day.” He said.
Amy nodded in understanding. She should probably make a note of it, just incase she forgets.“Understood. Don’t worry, she’s in good hands. You might even come back to us wearing face masks.” Amy said. She laughed at her own joke and earned an amused chuckle from Shadow.“I hope to see your house once it’s finished.” Amy added.
Shadow nodded.“I know she’ll be alright, it’s you I’m asking. Hopefully, I’ll be able to show you the house sometime tomorrow.” He said.
“Sounds great!“ Amy said.
Shadow stood up off the couch, only to kneel in front of Cherry. Cherry chirped and hugged his leg. He patted her back in return.“I’ll be back soon.” He said. The little floating ball somehow connected to Cherry turned into a heart shape and she let out a happy chirp-like sound. The corners of Shadow’s mouth moved upwards as he stood up and waved bye.
Cherry let go and waved back.”Thanks again, Amy.” He said. He walked out of her house before suddenly vanishing in a flash of red.
Once Shadow was gone, Cherry stared at the place where he was before. She looked a little sad seeing him gone, which was to be expected. The two seem inseparable, especially since Cherry was dependent on Shadow as her caretaker. Another main factor was that chao, creatures who themselves had chaos energy inside, had an affinity for chaos energy. Shadow was the only other source of this arcane energy, so it was no surprise that she tried to stick by him so much.
Also because they were great friends, everyone thought it was adorable seeing Shadow playing with Cherry and teaching her how to do first aid and letting her use his arm as practice. Amy smiled at Cherry.”Don’t be sad, Auntie Amy will take care of you today!” She said. Cherry turned to Amy as she stood up.”I’ll just find that list.” She said. She walked over to the drawers she kept next to her couch and opened the one second to the top.
She was a little confused to see that it wasn’t in there even as she moved stuff around, but quickly brushed it off as simply misremembering things and opened the drawer above it. The list wasn’t in there, either.“I know I put the list in one of these drawers.” Amy muttered to herself. While she continued to rummage through the four drawers, the pink hedgehog failed to notice Cherry climbing onto Bea’s back.
Finally, in the bottom drawer, the list was revealed. Amy picked up the neatly folded piece of paper and closed the drawer, letting the list unfold a few times to begin reviewing it.“Ah-ha! Found it!” She cheered. She heard Bea buzzing above her and looked up. Amy gasped when she saw Bea flying in circles high above her head with Cherry cheering on her back.“Bea, please stay a little closer to the ground if you’re going to let Cherry ride on your back.” She said, worry slipping into her otherwise stern tone.
~~~~~~~
Amy set down a plate of neatly cut up fruits such as apples, oranges, and cantaloupe on her table.”The list says that chao pretty much only eat fruits, so I put together this nice fruit plate.” She said. Cherry chirped and smiled at her.”Aw, you’re welcome!” Amy said. Cherry floated from the couch to the table and picked up a piece of cantaloupe. How she was able to do that without any actual hands or fingers, Amy will never know. Cherry had only taken a few bites when a blue blur came in through the window.
Sonic let himself flop back onto the couch and smiled.”Hey, Amy! I’m bored. Got any fun activities?” He asked. Amy, a little upset by the sudden intrusion, opened her mouth to scold him for not knocking.“Actually, don’t answer that. You hate fun.” Sonic interrupted. Amy let out a small groan of irritation at his behavior. He was almost always like this, and sometimes, it was something Amy could brush off. Other times, she wanted so badly to just shake him until he understood his manners.
Cherry warbled in greeting and caught Sonic’s attention. He looked at her from the couch and smiled.“Oh, hey, Cherry.” He said. He quickly sat up and looked around.”Wait, is Shadow here?” He asked, sounding pretty eager to see him. He probably wanted to ask him to race again. It seemed to be his favorite thing to do with him.
“No. Shadow asked me to watch Cherry for the day.” Amy replied, sounding a little proud of herself. And she was.
Sonic seemed a little disappointed that he wouldn’t find Shadow there and leaned back into the couch, letting his arms flail back carelessly.“Why you and not me? I mean, not that I exactly want to babysit the whole day, but Cherry’s adorable and we can do all sorts of cool stuff.” Sonic asked.
Amy put a hand on her chest and smiled.”He said I’m one of the most responsible out of the group. I guess he didn’t want to risk you getting the bright idea of launching Cherry across the living room while he wasn’t around.” She replied.
Sonic rolled his eyes.”Oh, come on!” He said. Amy glared at him. She didn’t really trust whatever it was that Sonic had in mind for “fun”, especially with Cherry.”I mean, sure, I’m plenty irresponsible, but I’m responsible enough to admit it! That means something, right?” He argued. Cherry finished off another piece of fruit, then flew over to the couch.
“Chao!” She said, climbing onto Sonic’s leg and patting him as if to get his attention. Sonic looked at her and his face quickly softened.
“Aww!” He said. He patted her on the head. Cherry smiled and closed her eyes, clearly enjoying the affection. Amy couldn’t help but coo as well at this. There was something about the creature that Shadow called “chao” that was just so adorable. Amy had a feeling that if Eggman ever found her, even he’d agree, and treat her like the precious creature she was.
That is, if Shadow didn’t knock him out before he could get near her. He was protective of Cherry, and he didn’t like Eggman from the start. That was actually another reason why letting Sonic care for Cherry was a bad idea. When — not if — something happened, then not only would Cherry break their hearts with her cries, but Shadow would somehow hear them and break their bones. Remembering Sonic’s record for causing a bit of trouble, Amy shook her head.
“Well, it means that you can admit it. That doesn’t mean you can do anything reckless with Cherry.” She said.
Sonic rolled his eyes and picked Cherry up with an arm.“Oh, don’t worry, Amy! We’ll do something safe and harmless, like…”
~~~~~~~
“Going to Meh Burger!” Sonic said. Tails had joined them for whatever reason and standing in front of the group table they used so often that it might as well be called theirs. Tails was holding the chao care list and standing between Amy and Sonic.
“Sonic? Shadow hates Meh Burger,” Tails pointed at the list near the middle, “and seeing what she eats, I seriously doubt Cherry would be able to eat anything here without getting sick. Also, Meh Burger food is hardly considered safe and harmless.” He said.
Amy put her hands on her hips and leaned forward, still giving Sonic that stern look.“In simpler terms, Shadow would kill us.” She said. She walked past Tails and promptly took Cherry from Sonic’s arms. Gently, of course, so she wouldn’t accidentally hurt her. Sonic groaned.
“Alright, then. Something even more careful. Maybe…”
~~~~~~~
“Ding-dong-ditching Eggman!” Sonic said.
Standing outside the metal tower, Cherry didn’t seem to like it very much. She let out a small whine and tapped on Amy’s arm to get her attention, not taking her eyes off the building. She looked very unsettled by it and really wanted to leave. They weren’t even very close to it yet. Amy patted her head to try to comfort her.“You seriously want to bring Cherry to Eggman’s lair?!” She asked angrily.
Sonic was already heading towards the door. He turned around and walked backwards to face Amy, Cherry, and Tails.“We’re not going inside!” He said. When he stepped closer to the building, an alarm blared from it. Cherry let out a startled noise and clung onto Amy. She buried her face on Amy’s shoulder to try to hide from the loud noises. Several weapons came out of the walls and pointed right at Sonic. In a matter of seconds, he was painted in red laser dots.
Sonic stopped in his tracks and let his arms fall down to his sides.“Oh. I see.” He said.
Just then, Eggman opened the door.“Oh, hey, Sonic! How do you like my new defenses?” He asked.
Sonic turned his head and glared at him.“Terrible. How am I supposed to ding-dong-ditch you? Let’s go home, guys.” Sonic said, turning back around and walking away.
~~~~~~~
“Volley ball?” Sonic suggested. He tossed the volleyball up into the air and hit it over then net. Cherry let out a startled warble, like a scream, and fled from the ball. The ball hit the sand where she was a moment ago, and as Amy looked down at the chao now standing behind her and holding onto one of her legs, she realized the ball was just a little smaller than Cherry was.
She picked Cherry up and took in a deep breath. She was getting fairly impatient with the blue hedgehog, but thinking about what he’d been doing all this for, she managed to calm down.“Sonic, I understand you’re trying to help Cherry have fun, but you need to remember that she’s small and probably has never even picked up a ball this size before.” She said.
“Yeah. It’s practically as big as her!” Tails defended.
Sonic looked at Cherry, then at the ball. He nodded, probably realizing that they were right. He tapped his foot slowly, then quickly, then abruptly stopped. Honestly, it reminded Amy of a bunny or rabbit. He hummed thoughtfully and clicked his tongue. Amy didn’t want to hear anymore suggestions from Sonic. The last three weren’t safe for Cherry, so who’s to say the fourth would be okay? Sonic’s idea of fun was pretty dangerous and reckless.“I got it!” He blurted out.
Amy and Tails both have him a deadpan expression.“This will be my last suggestion, I promise!” Sonic said.
Tails groaned.“Let’s hear it.” He said exasperatedly.
“Water slides!” Sonic exclaimed.
Cherry perked up a little and chirped. She seemed to be in agreement. Amy was honestly a little surprised, but only a little. She was worried he was going to propose another activity as bad as the last three. Cherry looked up at Amy and the little ball on her head shifted and changed into a question mark.“Huh. That might actually be okay.” Amy said.
~~~~~~~
“I take it back.” Amy said flatly.
Sonic was holding Cherry from on top of a small hill a little away from the beach. Cherry was struggling to get out of his hold and reaching out for the slide, which was kept wet with some pipes that looked like bamboo. For some reason, Amy hoped they were actually pipes painted and not actually bamboo. The slide itself was made of very smooth-looking wood, and was carved in a way to avoid falling pretty well. The worst part was there was a small, but thick patch of forest that the slide went through, making it a pretty hard to see the slide until it came out on the other side.
Cherry made impatient noises at Sonic and reached out for the slide again. Sonic couldn’t help a small laugh.“Well, Cherry wants to try it out!” He said. Amy let out an irritation groan that honestly sounded like a growl. Sonic held up a free hand to calm her.
“Don’t worry! Look, we have Tails and Knuckles down there when she comes out,” He gestured to the beach, where Tails and Knuckles waited in the water, waving at them, “this conveniently Cherry-sized life jacket,” Sonic held up a tiny life jacket, “and Sticks is somewhere in the middle down there just incase anything bad happens. She may be out of our field of vision for a moment, but Sticks will definitely see her.” He finished, pointing down the hill. Sticks waved up at the from the shade.
Cherry reached for the life jacket, very eager to go down. She was so close to grabbing it, but it was still a little too far. Amy looked at Cherry, then the slide, then back at Cherry. She wanted so badly to go down, but was it worth risking her safety? What if she fell off? She knew that Sticks would probably catch her. She simply adored the little creature, like the rest of them did. And if she needed help, surely Sonic could run and catch her in time. He could run faster than sound, after all.
Amy sighed.”Alright, fine. But if something goes wrong and Shadow finds out, I will bring every one of you down with me.” She said. She definitely wasn’t going to be the only one who got a stern talking to by Shadow. He may be short compared to most of them, but he most definitely had the strength and looks to scare all of them.”One go, then we get some lunch.” Amy added.
“Got it!” Sonic said. He kneeled down and set the chao on the ground.”Arms out.” He requested. Cherry smiled and held both arms out so Sonic could put it on her. He snapped the clips together. Cherry chirped excitedly and looked at the water slide.”Go on!” Sonic encouraged. Amy made a small noise of worry and bit the inside of her mouth. Cherry walked to the slide and sat down at the edge. With a gentle scoot from Sonic, she was off.
Cherry let out a long sound of excitement that was probably basically a “weeeee!” as she went down. Amy watched her disappear from view and Sticks track her with her eyes. She followed Cherry into the forest and the sound Cherry was making faded. Soon enough, Amy saw Knuckles and Tails move closer to the end of the slide. Knuckles picked something up and lifted it. It was Cherry.
“Thank goodness nothing went wrong.” Amy said.
~~~~~~~
“Uno!” Knuckles exclaimed. He slammed one hand on the table with the other holding his card high.
Tails looked at him confused.”I thought this was Go Fish.” He said.
Amy and Sticks glanced at each other.”Is it?” Sticks asked.
“I don’t know anymore.” Amy replied.
After lunch, Cherry had started to slow down and yawn. For the first time that day, Amy and Sonic actually agreed on something completely; to let Cherry sleep. Really, the whole group did, but with how active Sonic was, Amy was surprised at first. Until he decided that it was time for his own afternoon nap and made himself comfortable on Amy’s other couch. All the lights were turned off and Bea was resting near Cherry, a small blanket covering both of them and both resting their little heads on pillows.
The rest of the group was outside, passing the time with a game of cards. Except no one seemed to know what game they were playing.”Okay, how about we start over? Or play something else! We could play Monopoly!” Tails suggested.
“The game of capitalism?! The one that tears family and friends apart like paper through a paper shredder?!” Sticks exclaimed. She looked and sounded practically offended by that suggestion as she slammed the table and stood up from her seat. Tails pulled back a little seeing her reaction. Then Sticks smiled.”Sure! It’ll be a life lesson not to trust money-hungry people. And find out with one of us that is.” She said, glancing between them all suspiciously.
“Uh, guys?” Sonic called out from inside Amy’s house.
Amy assumed he was going to tell them to keep it down and turned back to the cards on the table. She reached for them and began to put them back in a neat stack.”We’ll keep it down!” She yelled back.
“It’s not that! I mean, it was, but not anymore! Where’s Cherry?” Sonic asked.
~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, in an unknown location, Shadow was working inside a cabin. The entire thing was nearly complete, which was a relief considering the all-nighters he’d been pulling in order to speed up the process as much as he could without destroying the quality of it. He’d been working on it for a few weeks now, with Cherry keeping a safe distance unless she tried to bring a tool he needed. Thank god he became obsessed with building his own cabin at some point and did as much research as he could between missions.
Thanks to his strength and ability to teleport, he’d been able to do all of the work so far on his own, despite the severe lack of numbers helping with the construction. His speed was also a big advantage for him. It made the whole process so much quicker. Although, doing this while taking care of Cherry was becoming a little more difficult, so he’d decided to ask Amy to watch her to try to get as much done as he could today. It was already afternoon and he’d made so much progress.
He was so close to finishing! Surely he’d be able to finally finish and take Cherry back to a comfortable house. Suddenly, Shadow paused and straightened his back. He stared out into the distance and squinted his eyes with a mixture of a knowing look and suspicion.
“Something just happened.” He said.
~~~~~~~
Sonic kept running around Amy’s house, searching inside, outside and even underneath over and over, but no sign of Cherry. There was just the weird egg that was found on Amy’s couch. He came to a stop next to Amy.”Have you checked your crawlspace?!” He asked frantically. Both were growing more and more anxious with each second and hoped that she’d suddenly turn up. Really, everyone was.
Amy nodded.”Yes! I checked it five times, and my bathroom, but nothing!” She replied. She turned on her communicator on her watch and spoke into it.”Tails, anything from the air?” She asked.
“Nothing! I’ve scanned a five mile radius around your house three times already and I can’t find her!” Tails said.
“Knuckles, what about you and Sticks?” Amy asked.
“No sign of her down here, either!” Knuckles said.
“He checked under the same rock, like ten times!” Sticks added.
“She couldn’t have gone far, but just to make sure, someone should search Hedgehog Village.” Tails said.
“I’ll go!” Sonic said. In less than a second, he was gone in a blue blur.
~~~~~~~
Sonic ran around the village. He picked up random food carts to look under, then put them down when he didn’t see her. He sprinted over to the walrus lady and showed her a picture of Cherry.”Excuse me, have you seen her?” He asked.
“No, I haven’t.” She replied.
Sonic swore internally. This was really bad. He ran over to Meh Burger to ask Dave the Intern.”Have you seen this chao?” Sonic asked. If this wasn’t such a bad situation, he’d also ask for a chili dog, but if Cherry wasn’t found and safe, Shadow would have his head.
“Hmm, no. I don’t even know what that thing is.” Dave said.
Sonic moved onto the next person. And the next. Then the next, and the one after that.
~~~~~~~
Tails showed a picture of Cherry to that officer from the trip to the Dude-itude concert a few months ago. He at first found it incredibly unlikely that Cherry would’ve come this far, but remembering that she’s a creature of chaos energy and chaos energy was what let Shadow teleport made it easy to assume that she might’ve teleported. Even though Tails had never seen or heard of her doing that.
The officer shook his head.”Nope, but we’ll keep an eye out for her and give ya a call if we find her.” He said.
“Okay. Thank you so much, officer.” Tails said.
~~~~~~~
Sticks showed a picture of Cherry to the frog people. Really, she shouldn’t be down there and asking, but here she was. They shook their heads.
~~~~~~~
“This is Cherry. She’s our friend’s companion, and if we don’t find her, he’ll be super mad. Have you seen her?” Knuckles asked. The gogoba that seemed to be in charge shook his head.
“No, we haven’t seen her. I just feel terrible.” He said.
~~~~~~~
Amy stood outside Eggman’s fortress with a picture in her hand. She looked up at the weapons aimed at her.”Eggman, do you mind? I just have an important question to ask, it’s an emergency.” She said. Surprisingly, the weapons disappeared back into the walls. The door opened and Eggman was standing with a plate of cookies.
“Oh, hello, Amy! An emergency, you say? Well, since you helped me pick out the right sewing kit to fix my pajamas, how can I help?” He asked. Despite being a supervillain, Eggman had some sort of code that he followed without a second thought. Returning the favor seemed to be part of it.
Amy held up the picture.”This is Cherry, and she’s gone missing. If we don’t find her, Shadow will be really mad at us and might even come for you if he thinks you kidnapped her. You haven’t happened to see her, have you?” She asked.
Eggman made a small sound of fear and lifted the picture so he could see it better. He took a careful look at it. He shook his head.”I’m sorry, but I haven’t. Not since earlier today when you came with Sonic and Tails, at least.” He handed it back to her.”Uh, you’re not serious, right? About Shadow?” He asked.
“I am serious.” Amy replied.
“Well, in that case, I’m going to hide in my lair and hope for the best. Good luck!” Eggman said. Before Amy could yell at him for not offering to help the search, the doors shut tight, and another door sealed in front of that one.
~~~~~~~
The sun was almost gone, so there wasn’t much light. Still, Sonic ran into Amy’s house without tripping over anything and saw everyone else already there. Funny how he was the fastest, and yet he was the latest in some cases.“Please tell me you found her!” Amy said. Sonic shook his head.
“Not a trace, and I searched the whole island.” He replied.
Everyone glanced between each other in silent thought. Where the heck did Cherry go? And how did she even vanish like that?
Knock-Knock-Knock
Everyone froze. After a few seconds, they slowly turned their heads towards Amy’s door. Knuckles gulped and Amy held her breath. Sticks took a slow step away from the door. Luckily, there was no badly-timed floor board creak. Tails slowly moved the egg that was found on the couch behind himself. He wasn’t sure why he felt obligated to do it. The house was silent, save for the fireflies and waves outside.
There was usually no reason to fear Shadow, but with how much he clearly cared deeply for Cherry, who knew how he’d react to her disappearance?
“Maybe if we stay quiet, he’ll go away.” Sonic whispered. Just then, there was more knocking.
“Way to give us away, smart-alec!” Amy snapped under her breath. She took in a deep breath and walked towards the door. She opened it and saw Shadow standing there. He glanced behind her, noticing the others also in the house.“Sorry to interrupt your sleepover, but I’m here to pick up Cherry.” He said. Everyone glanced between each other with panicked and nervous eyes.
“She’s… Uh… busy! Doing taxes!” Knuckles said.
Shadow gave him an unimpressed look and crossed his arms. He was quiet for a good while, staring at Knuckles. Knuckles was getting more visibly nervous before Shados spoke.“She doesn’t know how to do taxes, and she doesn’t have them in the first place. Also, you don’t sound convincing at all and you’re avoiding eye contact.” He said. He was actually pretty good at spotting things like that, so he wasn’t easily manipulated by Eggman when they first met.
The group thought that would be a good thing, but now, it’s really not. Shadow kept staring at Knuckles, who was growing more and more pressured to tell the truth. Everyone else was practically begging him internally not to crack and spill the beans. Shadow looked around the room.”Where is she?” He asked. He didn’t necessarily sound angry, but knowing him, he’d grow impatient very soon if he didn’t get an answer. A bead of sweat dripped down the side of Knuckles’ face.
“Okay, okay!! It was my fault!!” Sonic blurted out. Everyone turned to look at him. Shadow seemed confused and worried already, and the others just stared in shock. Sonic just broke the dam, and now they really had no choice but to tell the truth.“I took a nap and I was the only one inside the house while they were outside, and when I woke up, she had vanished!” Sonic explained.
Tails stepped out from behind Sonic to show Shadow the egg.“All we found was this weird egg that appeared out of nowhere. We’re all so, so sorry!” Tails said. Shadow looked at the egg with an unreadable expression. The house went quiet.
The whole group was tense with anticipation of what he’d say and do, and when he’d do it. If he would be full of silent rage or lash out at them for being so reckless. The chao meant so much to him, and he’s done plenty of favors for them before without asking for one in return until today. Yet when he needed this one favor, a caretaker he can trust to look after Cherry, they failed. Shadow stared at the egg for a while, most likely still in shock.
Then his gaze flickered over to Amy.“Amy. Take a look at the list I gave you, down at the bottom.” He said. Amy lifted her gaze from the floor to look at Shadow, puzzled as to what purpose that would serve. Despite her confusion, she quickly ran to her coffee table and grabbed the list.
She cleared her throat and began reading it out loud.“Another important part of a chao’s life cycle depends on their emotional and mental state.” Amy said. Her eyes widened and she gasped in surprise when she saw the very last part of the list.“If kept healthy until the end of their life, the chao will turn back into an egg and begin their life cycle all over again?!” She finished. She looked at Shadow with a shocked expression, as if silently asking him if this was true.
The rest of the group was just as surprised, gasps leaving members’ mouths and bewildered expressions shifting between each other, the egg, and Shadow.
Tails looked at the egg in his hands in utter disbelief. He understood that chaos energy was something else, and close to impossible to properly study in Shadow’s world because of how it worked, but a creature basically going through reincarnation depending on its mental health?!“So this egg is Cherry?!” Tails asked.
Shadow nodded and walked over to him. He carefully took the egg from Tails, holding it close with both arms.“Yes. She’s perfectly healthy. Thank you for looking after her today.” He said. Hearing that, Knuckles breathed an audible sigh of relief. Everyone aside from Shadow could feel that. They were so worried about how he’d take it.
“I was really worried there for a second. I was hoping to teach Cherry how to ride a bike next week.” Knuckles said.
Shadow almost laughed at this. He turned around and began heading towards the door.”Not next week, but at some point.“ He said. When he was a few steps away from the door, Amy noticed something out of the corner of her eye. Sonic suddenly smiled and sprinted past her and across the room in a blue blur. He stood between Shadow and the door, grabbing the knob and stepping to the side.
“Let me get that.” He said, sounding slightly nervous. He opened the door and held it for Shadow.
“Thank you.” Shadow said. He walked through the door and only a couple steps across the walkway before teleporting away. Sonic shut the door, looking as if he was proud of himself and loosing it internally. Amy felt herself smiling seeing this. It was obvious to her that Sonic had romantic feelings for Shadow. She wasn’t sure why, but when she talked about it with Knuckles, he thought that she’d be upset about it.
The only thing she was upset about was how poorly Sonic was denying his feelings. Unless he was oblivious enough to not even notice them, which wasn’t impossible knowing Sonic. The first Shadow they met was a jerk, but after getting to know and appreciate this Shadow, Amy could and would say with her chest that he deserved a true gentleman. Sonic… isn’t exactly a true gentleman, but Amy wanted to help regardless. Maybe she didn’t have to, though. Maybe, just maybe, there was a brain in that thick skull.
“Uh, Amy? What’s with that weirdly super happy look?” Sonic asked.
Amy shrieked without a second thought.“Finally!!”
(Bottom Notes: Let me know if you think it’s sloppy or something I should’ve done better. I think I did good? Or did I go overboard with anything? I was trying to make it like an episode.)

I found this art and it's yours but I can only find it on pinterest and it's consuming me pls show me the original post or just give me a backstory I am Haunted
https://images.app.goo.gl/NU3FarXZQHfRyE258
Ahhh, Zoro Gets Violent the comic. One of my most reposted artworks ever. You can find my original post here. (Also on twitter.) Honestly I'm more upset about the fact that the reposters always seem to leave out the second part of the comic whenever they reposted this, cause like if you want to steal something at least steal the complete set, no? :/ (Sarcasm.)
The basic gist of the comic is basically Sanji got captured and held hostage by a bunch of bad guys, and Zoro got so furious that he barged into their lair, slaughtered the hell out of them, and had to have Sanji calling his name and murmuring reassurances to him just so he can calm down.
I did intentionally keep the backstory ambiguous because, well, I like to keep the interpretations up to the viewers to decide. But my original intention is that there is a reason why Zoro in here is so uncharacteristically violent - even more than usual, knowing how much faith he put in Sanji's ability to hold his own. And I tried to show... or rather imply that, through one of the panels of Zoro hugging Sanji (or Sanji hugging Zoro?). Sanji isn't wearing anything below his waist. Zoro, upon finding him like that, had assumed the worst.
Now I tried showing it through Sanji's dialogue, but if it wasn't clear enough, nothing really did happen. Whether that's because Zoro had arrived soon enough to stop anything from happening, or because of any other reason, that's up to you. Why the bad guys captured Sanji in the first place is also left to interpretation. The main focus of the comic really is just the depiction of Zoro's mind slowly coming back from a mix of pure, unadulterated rage and gut-wrenching fear when faced with the reality that Sanji (might) got hurt - with only Sanji's voice guiding him away from that frenzy. It was to show the utter desperation behind Zoro's eyes when he sees (or rather believes) Sanji got hurt, and contrast that with the bloodied carnage Zoro left behind - the only evidence from what happened before Sanji is able to get Zoro to calm down. Zoro is one of the most level-headed characters in the series, and he always has faith in Sanji's ability to hold on his own. Putting Zoro in a situation where the admirable steadfastness inside himself shatters because his lover is in danger is a really interesting subject to tackle.
Gotta admit, when making this comic I was actually in a pretty low place, hence why the outcome became pretty dark. Maybe a bit edgy. And I guess also kinda personal. But it did help me process whatever emotion I was feeling at the time, and reading other people's receptions of it had honestly helped me go through a difficult phase in my life. Three even wrote a fic based on this art which still made me giggle and kick my feet to this day. I love reading people's interpretations of my art, and receiving a wholeass fic about it? I'm over the fucking moon. (Go read it, it's an excellent fic).
So honestly? I still consider "fear" as one of my best artworks of all time. And while I was obviously bummed about the fact that it got reposted a lot of times, if it means that some people might be curious about the backstory enough to find my account? So be it. I'm glad people are able to enjoy my art, in any way they can.
(Still, obviously, don't make reposting art into a habit. At the very LEAST ask for the artist's permission. Respect your fandom creators, people.)

How To Woo A Hot Principal
Chapter 2: Step 2: Don't Panic
Summary: Working at the weathervane was exactly what you needed. The routine, the people, your co-worked. It certainly helped that a certain tall, blonde, fucking gorgeous woman happened to frequent the cafe. Now some may call hopelessly flirting with your customers inappropriate behavior.
But truly, when it came it Larissa Weems, who could blame you?
the silly bitch is back this time with teenage shenanigans. 🦐
Chapter 1
Cross Posted to AO3 Here
HTWAHP Masterlist
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“You can do this, it’s just a building. A very beautiful goth as fuck building that happens to be housing the woman you’re head over heels for. The very woman whose coffee you’re holding…” you mumble to yourself, staring up at the impressive building of Nevermore Academy.
It really was a beautiful building, in a goth macabre sort of way. When you were younger you probably would’ve killed to go to a school that looked like this. You could’ve been dark and edgy on epic balconies, every depressed teen’s dream.  However, you’re currently more concerned with arguing with yourself about the stupidity of your offer. You can’t help but think maybe Larissa was simply being polite and didn’t want you to show up at her workplace. Maybe she actually can’t stand you and your painfully obvious crush on her and didn’t have the heart to tell you to buzz off. Maybe this-
Your spiralling is abruptly cut off but a monotone voice, “Are you just going to stand there or are you actually going to come in?”
“JESUS FUCK-“ you yell, jumping at the voice, nearly dropping your precious cargo. You look away from the window you had been staring out to see a dark-haired girl standing in the doorway, glaring up at you. She’s obviously a student, judging by the uniform she’s wearing despite it completely lacking its usual colour.
“How long have you been standing there?” you ask, trying to recover from your near heart attack.
“Long enough to question your intentions here.” She replies.
“Wednesday! There you are!” a bright voice exclaims from behind your interrogator.
You look behind the girl, Wednesday, to see a sweet-looking blonde girl skipping over to you two. She stops next to Wednesday with a bright smile. She looks like the embodiment of sunshine honestly. The two standing next to each other is quite the juxtaposition.
“Oh! Hi, I’m Enid.” She introduces herself, sticking her hand out for you to shake.
You tell her your name and she smiles before turning to Wednesday.
“We have botany soon, I was just coming to get you but you weren’t in our room. Thing told me you were trying to escape again.” She grins.
“Thing will pay for his treachery soon enough.” Wednesday mumbles. “And as you can see, I’m still here.”
“Escape?” You mumble, glancing back at Wednesday “I thought this was a school, not a prison.”
“May as well be one.” Wednesday huffs, followed by Enid smacking her arm lightly.
“It’s not that bad! You’re just dramatic. Anyway, we’re going to be late, so let’s go.” She says, all but dragging a scowling Wednesday behind her.
“Oh uh, wait! Could you tell me how to get to Laris- I mean Principal Weems’s office? I have something for her.” You ask.
You swear you have never seen someone move faster in your life. One moment Enid was dragging her grumpy goth friend away and the next she was right in front of you, staring up at you with gleaming eyes.
“You’re here to see Principal Weems?? Are you two friends? Are you more than friends? What did you bring her?” She gushes.
“Don’t uh…don’t you have to get to botany?” You ask, taking a step back.
You’re not all that sure what you and Larissa are really. Or why she said yes ti you bringing her coffee every morning. For all intents and purposes, you’re just a very dedicated barista to her. Which makes your heart ache in a very pathetic way. But you’re fairly certain she wouldn’t want whatever relationship you have going on to be known by any of her students. She strikes you as the type to value her privacy.
“It’s fine. We’ll take you to Principal Weems’s office. We won’t get in any trouble. And we’d be happy to help, right Wednesday?”
“I’d rather willingly poison myself with Miss Thornhill’s plants thanks.” She grumbles.
“See! It’s settled. Let’s go!” Enid exclaims, setting off further into the school.
“Is she always like this?” You ask Wednesday.
“Every hour of every day so far.”
“Wow”
The two of you catch up to Enid who then continues to try and grill you for information on what you’re delivering to her principal and what your relationship to her is. You answer relatively honestly, telling her you’re just there to deliver coffee and you’ll probably be back, but it’s nothing more than that. She seems to not believe you, which is doubled when Wednesday makes a comment about a trip to Nevermore to deliver coffee not being typical service from the Weathervane.
“You’re totally in love with her!” Enid squealed, practically bouncing on the spot.
“I-that’s. First of all, that’s none of your business, and second you’re jumping to conclusions! I just- laris- I mean Principal Weems is a wonderful busy woman who needs coffee. There’s nothing weird about me bringing one to her in the morning! And- and it doesn’t even have to mean anything! Can’t it just be me being nice?”
“You know, they say those who become defensive when confronted are usually guilty.” Wednesday chirps with a smirk.
Dear god having two teenagers gang up on you about your crush on their principal was not what you imagined your morning to include.
“Do you two enjoy bullying a kind-hearted adult?”
“Yes.” Wednesday deadpans eliciting a snort from you.
“And we’re here!!” Enid exclaims, stopping in front of a pair of double doors.
You stare at the golden plaque on the door. The nerves from outside have returned tenfold now. And you can’t help but wonder if you should just turn and leave. You have a habit of taking things a step too far, you’re worried this is one of those times. What if she’s busy and doesn’t want you bothering her? What if-
“Well, we should get going!” Enid smiles, and then -to your horror- knocks on the door before quickly dragging Wednesday away.
“Come in” you hear an angelic voice answer from the other side.
Well you can’t just turn around now, and you did come all this way. So with that thought you take a deep breath and open the door.
And Jesus fucking Christ it should be illegal how lovely Larissa Weems looks seated at her desk, glasses perched on her nose, light beaming in from the window behind her. She looks like an angel, truly. She looks breathtaking you genuinely nearly forget to breathe.
And when she glances up from her laptop screen to look at you? If you were meltable you’d be nothing but a puddle right this second. Christ on a stick it’s a good day to love women, especially the very gorgeous woman in front of you.
“Darling? What are you doing here?” She asks, standing up and rounding her desk.
Your heart drops a little bit, thinking the worst.
Obviously, she didn’t want you to come. How could you be so stupid?
“I uhm. I brought you coffee! I’m sorry it’s- god I- this is silly I shouldn’t have come, you were obviously joking and I’m disturbing you I should- I’ll just go,“ you ramble, looking at anything but her.
You jump when you feel her hand wrap around your wrist. When the fuck had she gotten close? Was she a ninja? Your eyes dart to her face to see her…wait is she blushing?
You blink up at her, trying to figure out why she’s standing there, holding your wrist with a bashful smile on her face and a blush on her cheeks.
“Larissa? Are.. is everything okay?”
“You really are too sweet to me darling” she murmurs, squeezing your wrist. “I had thought you were just joking yesterday. I’m not used to people going out of their way for me like this.”
“Well, people are fucking stupid then.” You retort, “People should go to the ends of the earth just to talk to you. I know I would.”
“If you keep talking like that you’ll never get rid of me.” She mumbles, looking away.
“The day I want to be rid of you is the day I’ve been body snatched and replaced by an evil alien.”
She snorts at that, her nose scrunching in the most adorable way. And wow she really is close. You can see the slight crow’s feet at the corners of her eyes, the laugh lines around her mouth. Christ her mouth looks far too kissable right now. You look back at her eyes and, oh gods she is not allowed to look at you like that you really might just kiss her. Would she kiss you back? The way she’s looking at you has you thinking maybe she would. All it would take is for you to lean in just-
A loud thud breaks you both from your reverie. You turn to face where the noise came from and just manage to catch a glimpse of blonde hair darting around the corner. You really should’ve suspected your kind escorts were going to eavesdrop. While you feel a little mortified you can’t find it in yourself to be mad at them.
“I don’t suppose you found my office on your own?” Larissa asks.
“I was very kindly escorted by two of your students, they found me panicking at the front door.”
“I don’t suppose they were a moody goth and a bright bubbly girl?” She hums.
“Yep. That was them.”
She sighs, bringing a hand up to rub her temples while muttering something about walking trouble. You giggle, much to your utter mortification, before lifting up the bag you brought.
“Coffee?” You ask.
“God yes.” She sighs.
You reach into the bag and bring out the thermos you’d brought handing it to her with the dorkiest grin on your face. She thanks you before taking a sip and borderline moaning at the taste (yeah your face could give a furnace a run for its money right now).
“Anyway I uh,” you clear your throat. “I best be off. Wouldn’t want to keep you from your work.”
“Do you need to head back to the cafe?”
“Oh no I’m not working today, I just thought-“
“It seems a waste coming all this way to leave so soon no?” She asks. “Let me give you a tour.”
“Oh no it’s okay! I’m sure you have more important things to do-“
“Well, I think it’s rather important you let me show you around. Please?” She asks.
And goddamn you couldn’t say no to her if you were being held at gunpoint. And the idea of her wanting to spend time with you is making you swoon. So you agree, ducking your head in a nod so she won’t see how flustered you are by her simple gesture.
She presses her laptop shut and grabs the takeaway bag from your hand, placing it down on her desk, before gesturing to the door.
“After you sweetheart.”

Done Enough (Critical Role Fanfic) Chapter 2
For the first time in a long time, Ashton wished his weapon had a blade.
The fleeting satisfaction of reducing branches to splinters had worn thin, leaving behind only the sturdiest trunks and the most resilient saplings that bounced off his hammer as if mocking his fury. His rage boiled beneath the surface.
With a shout filled with desperation and anger, he leveraged his full strength against a nearby tree. The tree shuddered under the impact but stood firm, immovable and indifferent. Ashton’s shoulders heaved, sweat trickling down his stony exterior,
“That’s an ironwood. Your hammer’s as good as useless.”
Chetney's voice cut through the tension, oddly calm amid the destruction. He stood a few feet away, idly whittling away at one of the half-pulped branches Ashton had discarded.
Ashton panted, his breaths coming in heavy, labored gasps. “Can’t sleep?” he managed to say between breaths.
“Not when there’s so much good wood being wasted. It was calling to me,” Chetney said wistfully. The branch in his hand was starting to vaguely humanoid. “And you’re loud as hell. I’m surprised half the camp isn’t awake.”
Ashton didn’t have it in him to feel regret. Chetney continued.
“I wonder what FCG would say if they were here,” he remarked.
“They chose to kill themself. They don’t get a say in how we grieve.”  Ashton replied sharply.
“That’s not fair, Ashton.” Chetney said coldly. “They saved our lives.” Ashton tasted a pinch of shame, and tried to wash it down with anger.
Chetney sighed deeply and took a seat among the roots of the ironwood, his whittling becoming almost unnaturally quick. “You get to be angry, that’s fine. But don’t poison their memory. The rest of us have to grieve too.”
Ashton’s knees felt weak. He sat down, resting his hammer over his lap, and breathed deeply.
“If FCG were here,” he said tiredly, “they’d say something about us all coming together and supporting each other as a team. And they’d probably say they were happy. I bet they were happy, at the end. They got to do what they’ve always wanted to do.”
Chetney tutted. “Very edgy, Ashton. You act like they did this to you and not for you. Listen, I’m made of stronger stuff than the others, and even I’m feeling a bit fucked up by this. So I get it. But keep that bitterness between us, okay? Or between you and the hardwood.” he added, patting the scarred trunk of the tree. “The others aren’t doing very well. We need to keep an eye on Orym. He’s getting pretty dark.”
Ashton leveled a long look at Chetney. The gnome looked weary but resolute. “How are you doing?” Ashton asked gruffly.
Chetney smiled wryly. “I feel old. And I don’t normally feel old. It’s just... it’s tough when someone so young loses their life. Imagine how long FCG could have gone on for. They might have been practically immortal with that body, we don’t know. They could have outlived all of us.”
“They were hundreds of years old.”
“Maybe in body. But they’d been alive, what, like three years?”
“Give or take.”
“Three years old... That’s truly tragic. They never even got to have a childhood.” For a moment, Chetney had a hollow look that made him seem every bit as old as he claimed to be.
“They made me this horrible toolbox when they tried to—” Chetney made a sawblade motion, “—carve me up that first time. The craftsmanship was just appalling. You know what that looked like to me?”
“A waste of wood?”
“No. Potential . Nowhere to go but up.” Chetney looked up to the stars, his voice filled with a mix of wonder and sorrow. “They had only just figured out they could live, hadn’t even worked out what that meant yet. It just sucks.”
Ashton let the words wash over him and sank a little deeper into himself.
“Try not to think about it.” A soft voice sounded from the treeline. Orym dropped down, quiet as a shadow, wandering into the newly made clearing. “Their potential… what they could have been. It’ll drive you crazy.”
Chetney sighed deeply and returned to his whittling. Ashton turned to see Orym, who looked smaller than usual, haunted. His eyes were red, his cheeks puffy, and it was almost too raw for Ashton to bear; he suddenly felt like he was intruding just by being there. If FCG were here, he’d offer a hug.
“Are you okay?” he said, as gently as he could. Orym scrubbed a hand over his face.
“Right now, no. Eventually, yes…” Orym’s voice trembled. “But it doesn’t feel like it yet.” He took a shaky breath. “I know how this goes. So I just need to remember that it won’t feel like this forever. It’s hard to imagine... It’s just hard to... It’s hard.”
Ashton felt tears welling for the second time that evening. He scrambled mentally for that anger, that blessed distracting rage that could hold them at bay. Something else came to mind, unbidden, and he latched onto it. He moved towards Orym and pulled the halfling into a gentle hug.
Pain rippled through his form as Orym hugged back, sobbing. The hug was nice; the pain was grounding. Everything else dimmed a little for a moment. He could see FCG behind his closed eyelids, and for the first time that evening, he felt that the little Aeormaton would be proud of him in this moment.
Orym released Ashton earlier than he expected, probably not wanting to cause more pain. The absence of that sensation felt almost lonely. Orym sniffed and rubbed his eyes.
“You need to sleep.” Chetney remarked gently. “You both need to sleep. I’ll take watch.”
Orym stilled, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. “Back to back?” he stammered suddenly. Ashton stared at him blankly. “Sorry, it’s just something I saw—something Dorian—listen, do you want to sleep back to back? I think I’ll just sleep better if I’m not alone. It might help you, too?”
“Back to back,” Ashton echoed tentatively. “Yeah, I can do that. Just not too close.”
“Got it,” Orym said gratefully. He moved to pack up his bedroll.
“Enjoy your sleepover,” Chetney remarked offhandedly, returning to his whittling. He was gently carving a pair of mismatched lenses onto a tiny smooth face. Ashton let his eyes linger on the carving a moment longer before following Orym to camp.
It turned out going back to back did make it easier to sleep. And to Ashton’s great relief, he didn’t dream.

could you do reader that tries really hard to be edgy but is actually an absolute loser x charlie? feel like some funny hyjinks would ensue between those 2
Omg, this is so funny. I’m imagining reader as some emo
Charlie x edgelord reader
You’re a walking shock humor post come to life. Saying absolutely edgy and vile things just to seem cool but you’re such a dweeb, and Charlie has never been more revolted and in love.
Charlie thinks some of the stuff you say is really funny, even if you don’t intend it to be. You talk about gutting people and how you’re a secret psycho killer while he has to order for you, it never fails to make him laugh
And he’ll let you know this. He teases you every time he orders for you or does something you’re too scared to do. Charlie will always give you a hard time and say “well if you’re such an unfeeling person, why don’t you just go ask for it yourself?” “THIS IS DIFFERENT!!”
Sometimes people think you’re serious, he has had to de-escalate so many situations cause you threaten to beat someone’s ass and they thought you were serious. We all know he’s a master of de-escalating so you’ve been shot at, a lot
Or they try and give you actual mental health stuff, and you just have to awkwardly sit there while Charlie’s dying behind you as this sweet person tells you all this encouraging shit like “help it always out there”.
You bought a knife once and was showing off to Charlie, right? You were doing some tricks and he warned you not to fuck around and you said “don’t worry, I’m a killer.” And then sliced your hand open trying to catch it. You were crying like a baby while Charlie wrapped your hand
Often when you try and be deep and philosophical Charlie just cringes really hard and rolls his eyes. It’s endearing and painful to him. Your poems are even worse, he’ll listen to them every time and sit there with a stone cold face trying not to laugh as you go on about the ‘darkness in your soul’
Charlie calls you emo, even if you aren’t emo. It pisses you off to no end and he loves it, you get all pouty and go “I’m not fucking emo!!” “Dude you’re totally fuckin emo, look at this shit”
Sometimes he goes to hard with the teasing and you’ll genuinely feel hurt, he has to swallow his pride, no matter how right he is that you’re emo, and apologize to you. You always forgive him, cause he is right.

Comfortable Silence
From a chat with @quazart
Felt like giving Dread some love. I am sooooo out of practice. Ugh.
~~~~~
Dread stepped through the portal, trying to keep his footfalls quiet as he stood on the hardwood flooring of Callie’s home. The doorway closed behind him, allowing the darkness of the house to envelop him.
He turned to look through the windows, at the darkness outside. Cyber had verified that it was late here, after midnight, meaning the lass’ two kids were likely in bed. She may likely be in bed too, but that was okay. He often came here just for the peace, for the soft scent of her that permeated the pillows on her couch.
And right now, he needed comfort.
There were times when his past caught up to him, and the nightmares wouldn’t leave him alone. When the memories of his childhood, of the horrors and torture he endured, wouldn’t stop rotating through his mind. When his chest tightened, and his gut clenched, and he felt like he was ready to vibrate right out of his skin, he needed someplace to find the peace he needed.
Callie’s house provided that peace. Moreso than the Sanctuary did.
A sound came to him then. Soft. Conversation? At this time of night?
Moving slowly, and a lot quieter than he would seem capable of, Dread crept toward the archway leading into the living room. A light flickered in the darkened room, and the sounds of someone talking grew slightly louder the closer he got. Sounds of laughter now, but strange, almost muffled.
He moved toward the wall, peeking around the corner into the room, and found Callie on the couch, a blanket over her lap, leaning heavily against the armrest on her left. Her elbow perched on the rest, fist against her temple, holding her head up. She looked a combination of bored and exhausted, the light of the picture box—tee vee he thinks they call it—reflecting off her glasses.
As he watched, she moved, dropping the remote to remove her glasses and rub at her eyes with the heels of her hands. She uttered a long, tired sigh as she did so, before dropping her hands and letting her head fall back against the couch with a soft grunt.
He vaguely remembered her saying something about dealing with insomnia occasionally, so maybe that’s what was happening here.
Should he go? Did she want to be alone?
The normally boisterous and ‘subtle as a brick to the face’ Captain Dread stood where he was, unsure of his next move. His anxiety was eating him up, making him almost sick to his stomach, but he didn’t want to disturb the lass if she preferred to be alone.
After another moment of hesitation, the echidna let out a silent sigh. He certainly wouldn’t know what she wanted if he continued to stand in the shadows of her kitchen.
Swallowing hard, Dread stepped into the archway, hands clenched into fists as he battled this new addition to his already anxious mind.
~X~X~X~
Why was late night television so damn boring?
Talks shows with actors and musicians she didn’t recognize (who cares), chopped up movies heavily edited for broadcast (ridiculous), and weirdly animated ‘adult shows’ with unattractive character designs and over-the-top ‘edgy’ dialogue (eye roll). Her various streaming services weren’t much better, as she would simply scroll scroll scroll until the sun came up before she’d even picked anything. She wasn’t really in the mood to actually watch anything anyway, but she needed something to pass the time.
Of course, considering she was watching because her body seemed to have forgotten how to sleep, Callie should have been grateful for the yawn-inducing excuse for entertainment. It should have lulled her unconscious in no time.
Should have. But didn’t.
She flicked through another few channels before landing on a black and white rerun of an old sitcom. The canned laughter carried across her living room, and she dropped the remote onto her lap before pulling her glasses off. With a sigh she rubbed her dry eyes, before letting her head drop to rest on the back of the couch.
God she was tired.
But not sleepy.
The boys were upstairs, sleeping soundly. She envied them. Silver had nearly dozed off during supper, and Eclipse had tried to last past nine but dropped at about quarter of. She’d practically had to carry them both up to bed, and they were snoring by the time she even closed their doors.
She never really knew what brought on these insomniac phases. She’d usually go a few nights with hardly any sleep, and then it was if her body realized “Oh yeah! Sleep is actually a good idea, isn’t it?” and then she would drop. Not a big deal when you’re a single gal who can load up on coffee and drag yourself through the workday before collapsing into a caffeine induced daze at home, but not so great when you’re a single mom of two boys.
Trouble is, when she got into these phases, nothing seemed to break that barrier to sleep that seemed to have erected itself around her. Melatonin, sleeping pills, a bit of alcohol, white noise, boring TV . . . nothing. It truly was as if her body had forgotten how to sleep.
This was night number three. She guesstimated she’d gotten a total of maybe six hours of sleep over the past seventy-two. It was showing. Her brain was a foggy mess. Her coordination was off. She may or may not have been hallucinating, as she could have sworn she felt her portal to the Sanctuary open a few minutes ago. (It always gave her a tingle on the back of her neck.)
If she didn’t get some quality sleep soon, she wouldn’t trust herself to drive, or take care of her boys. Hell, she was barely doing either, now.
The squeak of a floorboard made her jerk her head back upright, and she looked toward the archway to her kitchen. A dark shape hovered there, and she squinted against the light the TV threw into the room. Was she hallucinating? Was someone actually there?
~X~X~X~
Dread flinched when she jerked her head up suddenly. He’d startled her, and now she squinted as she pulled her glasses back on and tried to make out his shape. She seemed more awake now, her posture indicating alarm. Even fear.
He didn’t want to scare her, but he supposed from her vantage, he either looked at best like some shadow creature, and at worst a home invader.
Figuring it was best to calm her worries, Dread stepped forward, where the light of the tee vee could show that he wasn’t some spook come to haunt her. When he did so, she relaxed, settling back against the couch with a relieved sigh.
A moment passed between them then. Dread opened and closed his fists, and had to fight to keep from fidgeting as the silence hung heavy in the air. Callie stared at him, her face unreadable, and he was starting to think this whole thing was a mistake. Maybe he should just go back through the portal and forget about any idea of comfort. The tightness in his stomach clenched, and his chest felt like a vice had clamped around his lungs.
He had just opened his mouth to tell her he would just head out, when she moved, lifting the edge of the blanket. The invitation shocked him, and it took him a moment to get his brain working again.
Slowly, as though not wanting to startle her, Dread moved across the room, stopping before the couch. He quickly toed out of his boots, and dropped his hat and mitts onto the coffee table, before climbing onto the couch and scooting under the blanket. He had intended to keep some space between them, but she tucked him in, and reached over to pull him close, snuggling him in against her side.
Oh gods, she was so soft. And warm. He inhaled deeply, nudging his nose against her arm, drawing in her unique scent. He couldn’t describe it, couldn’t put into words what it compared to, but all he knew was it somehow went straight into his brain to act as a soothing balm to the frazzled thoughts that had been buzzing up there for the past few days.
She settled into the couch in a more comfortable position, and he shifted to stay beside her. Her arm came around him, minding his quills, and she absently brushed her fingers through the fur on his arm. The touch was light and gentle, and a shiver ran up his back, loosening the tightness in his chest and gut. He drew in a long inhale, before letting it out in a soft hum, closing his eyes and leaning against her, reaching his arm across her in the process.
This was not a side he allowed anyone else to see. He was the great Dread, scourge of the seas, legendary pirate of No Place. He wasn’t soft. Didn’t need affection or love. Those things had been denied him as he grew up, and he was fine without them.
But . . . this was nice.
Very, very nice.
~X~X~X~
Out of all the Knuckleses she knew, she had the strangest relationship with this little pirate.
They traded barbs and jabs like it was their job. They kinda-sorta flirted with each other—jokingly, of course. Their tempers could bounce off each other, feeding until they were in a feedback loop of snark and anger. She was also the only one who had the slightest hope of controlling him when his gremlin behaviors started to spiral.
And she was the only one he allowed to see this side of him.
They seemed to have settled into this odd sibling-esque type of relationship. She never saw herself as a mother figure to him, but right now, as he snuggled against her much in the same way her own boys did when they were feeling in need of attention, she couldn’t help but feel somewhat protective of him.
She held him to her tighter.
This boy. Man? He was older than most of the other Knuckleses, in his 20s at least, but that didn’t change the fact that he came here when he needed some attention. His childhood was horrific; the things those pirates had done to him sometimes kept her awake at night. But he was still a Knuckles, and deep down he was still a sweet boy who craved affection.
Even if he didn’t really ask for it. Even if he didn’t really admit to himself he did.
Callie could feel him relax against her, the tension running out of his shoulders as his breathing deepened. A soft snore floated up not long after, and another sound joined it. She felt a slight vibration against her side.
Dread was purring.
She stared down at him for a moment, a little smile on her lips. She’d never heard him purr before.
Gently settling herself deeper into the couch cushion behind her, Callie scooped up the remote and set it on the side table. Her hand continued to gently comb through his fur, and that, combined with the soft purr rumbling against her, made her eyes grow heavy.
Within twenty minutes, both human and echidna were sound asleep. The TV continued to play, bathing the room in flickering light, and cued laughter.
ok hear me out...
american ferryman & karl except they're both kinda lowkey competing to court you.
licks lips wiggles eyebrows at you. whaddaya say?
sigh... I don't wannaaaa
I see a lot of posts on like Twitter and stuff talking about how American ferryman (we're gonna call him Christopher) and Karl would absolutely hate each other and art pieces of them beating each other up so I'm assuming you're asking about something like that so here's some headcanons so you can do a choose your own adventure thing and then I'll do the competing thing
Karl is the more 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 one. He's not one for talking a lot and he hates it when you give him compliments outside 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 time
Christopher is the more romantic one. He doesn't talk a lot either, but unlike Karl he'll give you compliments from time to time
Karl is the type to give gifts to you but will get horribly angry at you if you try and give him one. He hates people spending money on him and 9 times out of 10 will return the item and put the money back into your wallet
Christopher is the type to forget about gifts, and not see the big deal with gift exchanges. He'll feel bad after you find out he forgot and then take you to dinner
Karl HATES pda. He won't say anything but he will scowl at you the entire time bc his edgy cool emo complex is wounded. He loves it behind closed doors though. He's a little clingy actually
Christopher on the other hand LOVES pda. You can bet on your momma's soul that he will hold your hand if you ask him to
Karl is a pretty boy. He got that feminine ahh face and super sharp green/hazel eyes. He's always got his hair nice and neat. He's the taller one and a lot thinner. He's super pale and has dark brown, almost black hair
Christopher is the ugly hot variant. He's got a boxy face and dark brown eyes. His hair is messed up by the bandage, and it always is even without it. He's the shorter one, and he's got that boxy stocky build. He's a lot tanner and he's got light brown hair
Now for the competing... uhh...
Karl and Christopher would argue all the time regardless of if you were in the picture or not. They do NAWT like each other
Christopher would flirt with you and Karl would try to imitate but he cannot form a pick up line to save his life
On the other hand, Karl would be more forward in private and try and get a little freaky
Uhhh that's it I guess I'm kinda stumped YOU WERE TOO VAGUE!!!! (I'm not good at writing)
